Flying Light – // Fliegendes Licht – Abendflug mit der Avata

I was flying the Avata that evening.
It’s crazy how much color this little 12-megapixel camera still captures. Sure, you can’t really zoom in or pull out huge details, but that’s not what it’s for.
The drone is made to move fast and let you navigate tight spaces — FPV-style.
Still, for what it is, the image quality is honestly not bad.
The sun was already low, giving everything a warm tone. It was actually a bit more yellow in reality, but I like these brownish edits. They feel more natural to me.

1. Takeoff
That’s me starting the flight. You fly FPV with goggles, so you always need a spotter — my girlfriend took that job.
It was still warm back then, short pants weather.
I started right from a field path. The drone lifts off easily from the bag so the rotors don’t catch anything.

2. Close-up
She also took a close-up of the drone.
You can see the ND filter between those two orange dots at the front. It gives a nice look and keeps the highlights under control.

3. Black and white
A classic has to be included — one in monochrome.
I like how the dark drone stands out against the light field behind it.
Even without color, it feels strong and sharp.

4. Side view
Here you can see how well the propellers are protected.
Even with that, I still managed to crash it once.
But from this angle, it just looks balanced — like a piece of tech made to move.

5. Another side shot
Same model, different light.
You can tell how warm the colors are around sunset — the golden hour just works perfectly for these shots.

6. From below
Shot from underneath. The sky was completely blue, not a single cloud.
You can see the rotors spinning fast, and if you look closely — some sensor dust.
Tiny dots right above the watermark.

7. Warm tone edit
This one’s a bit intense — I pulled the background contrast down and boosted the drone itself.
It almost looks silver now, even though it’s not.
But I like the warmth. It feels like late summer.

The last one shows the sunset over Cologne — wide field, clean horizon.
It’s not a photo drone, it’s basically a toy.
But I’m happy with the shots.

Ich bin an dem Abend mit der Avata geflogen.
Schon verrückt, wie intensiv die Farben aus so einer kleinen 12-Megapixel-Kamera rauskommen.
Klar, reinzoomen kannst du nicht wirklich, aber darum geht’s ja auch nicht.
Die Drohne ist fürs schnelle Fliegen gemacht, fürs Navigieren, für FPV.
Und dafür ist die Bildqualität echt ordentlich.
Die Sonne stand schon tief, das Licht war warm. In echt war’s noch ein bisschen gelber, aber ich mag diese braunen Töne – die wirken natürlicher.

1. Start
Das bin ich beim Starten.
Man fliegt FPV mit Brille, deswegen braucht man auch einen Spotter – den Part hat meine Freundin übernommen.
War noch warm, also kurze Hose.
Gestartet hab ich direkt vom Feldweg aus, damit sich die Rotoren nirgends verfangen.

2. Nahaufnahme
Meine Freundin hat auch eine Nahaufnahme gemacht.
Vorne zwischen den zwei orangenen Punkten sieht man den ND-Filter, der sorgt für schön weiche Lichter.

3. Schwarzweiß
Ein Klassiker darf nicht fehlen.
Ich find, das sieht super aus – dunkle Drohne, helles Feld, starker Kontrast.

4. Seitenansicht
Hier sieht man gut, wie die Propeller geschützt sind.
Hab’s trotzdem geschafft, sie schon mal zu schrotten.
Aber von der Seite wirkt sie einfach perfekt ausbalanciert.

5. Noch eine Seitenaufnahme
Gleiche Drohne, anderes Licht.
Man sieht schön das warme Abendlicht – die goldene Stunde funktioniert einfach immer.

6. Von unten
Von unten aufgenommen. Der Himmel war komplett blau, keine Wolke weit und breit.
Man sieht, wie schnell sich die Rotorblätter drehen – und leider auch ein paar kleine Staubpunkte auf dem Kamerasensor.

7. Warmes Edit
Hier hab ich den Hintergrund etwas flacher gemacht und den Kontrast auf der Drohne erhöht.
Dadurch wirkt sie fast silber, obwohl sie’s gar nicht ist.
Ich mag das Bild, weil’s so schön warm wirkt – Spätsommer pur.

Der letzte Shot zeigt den Sonnenuntergang über Köln – weites Feld, klarer Horizont.
Eigentlich ist die Avata keine Fotodrohne, eher ein Spielzeug.
Aber mit den Bildern bin ich echt zufrieden.
