Visiting a mountain Barangay with a cause: A getaway

Hello World, hello Hivers, welcome to my story.

narrow road going uphill

Last Saturday we went to one of the mountain barangays of our City.
It is approximately 667.6 feet above sea level and shares a common border of barangay, Lutac, Cabungahan, Patag, and some parts of San Fernando mountain barangays. I lived in Naga since I was five years old and have never been to elevated barangays here in our place.

We left our house at 8:45 in the morning and prepared our lunch packed in lunch boxes. We planned to eat at our old friend's house. The reason why we visit barangay Jaguimit is to find beneficiaries of upcoming Samaritan's Purse boxes. We will survey the barangay first if they become beneficiaries before.

On our way, we turn right from the national highway going up. The view of Apo Land and Quarry Corporation one of the largest suppliers of Cement unfolded our senses. The narrow way going up is a struggle since a lot of vehicles are parked. You can see the many parts of the mountains that have been stripped of land used for making cement. This is where a huge landslide happened last September 20, 2018, which killed 78 people

A peaceful nature

We continued our trip and we appreciated a delightful view of nature. A clean roadside, lush vegetation, and a peaceful and relaxing picture welcome us. We also passed by a field with many moringa plants and the Cogon plant caught our eyes with it's white flowers. On the other side, you can see houses which are part of another barangay.

We know that the government service reaches here in the mountains since we have seen widening road construction. After 30 minutes of going uphill, we reach the barangay. We parked our car and scattered around the area to distribute gospel tracts and survey how many children in each household with the age group.

Like Calachuchi but not I do not know the name

We did not finish the whole barangay but some accepted us into their houses and open conversation regarding the matter. We passed by this wonderful creation. A white kind of flower looks like Calachuchi but does not smell like one and you can find it anywhere in the place. There is also a Cacao tree full of fruits on its branch, and a not-so-tall coconut tree full of fruits too. There is also a violet flower a bird of paradise with two color combinations and a pink gumamela.

By 11:30 am we decided to go back to the parking area to drink water for it was a sweltering day. The car was transferred to a shady area with lots of corn plants around it. Some who are with us are already waiting. We will be back next week to start another feeding area. There is some household that needs help with their daily food.

We travel back home not on the same route we have passed by. There is another route that we will pass some barangays yet lead us to the national highway. We did this to visit our old friend and his family but when we reached their place they were very busy constructing their church so we decided to find a place to take our lunch. We passed a cafeteria and decided to stop since everyone was hungry. After taking our lunch we went home.

As we embarked on the car rain started to pour. It was a very warm morning and then the rain poured, good things were done today. We were filled with food and happiness as we went home enjoying our short yet productive trip on the mountain.

Life is brief, therefore enjoy it with people with the same view of purpose. Give, share, and travel to make it more worthwhile and fulfilling.

Hope you enjoy reading my blog. See you next time.
