Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker

This old brick single-altar church was built in 1880. Consecrated in honor of Nicholas the Wonderworker. Closed in 1930. Popular rumor says that the chief rector of the temple was arrested and shot right during the service. In Soviet times, the church building was used as a granary, and later abandoned. Gradually the building turned into ruins. But in 2017, restoration work began. Work is progressing slowly, but still going

What a shame, such a nice monument in that state. This is part of the region's history and should be protected. You took some amazing photos.

Oh yes, I totally agree. It's a shame.

The most interesting thing is that the ROC does not make any efforts to restore or maintain such monuments. Almost all the temples that are being restored are being repaired at the expense of donations from local residents.
