Abandoned 17th century temple

IMG_1492.jpg

Church of the Savior of the Holy Image in the village of Ostankovo, Tatarstan. It was built in 1798 by the owner of the land, landowner Ivan Ostankov. The village in which the church stands also bears his surname. In the middle of the 18th century, the temple was reconstructed. Abandoned and plundered most likely in the 1930s. Restoration began in 2015. There is no access inside. There are bars on the windows. Massive front door with a lock. Having searched for information on the net, I found that since 2015, repairs have begun at the expense of a local patron. Periodically, on major church holidays, the temple opens its doors to parishioners.

По внешнему виду не скажешь, что идёт ремонт, видимо денег не хватает

Возможно. Начали, поставили дверь, окна. И на этом пока все.

It is impressive to see these abandoned structures. I imagine what it would be like when it was functional. Nice pictures my friend.

Thank you for your feedback :)

Unfortunately, all that remains is to use fantasy and imagine how the building looked before. It's rare to find an old photo...
