You know it's spring in my hometown Hoquiam, Wash., when you see goslings on the river.

The geese have been paired up and squabbling over spots on the river for about a month now, but I just started seeing the first babies this weekend.

I watched this family cruise by this afternoon.

Seeing the goslings on my walks along the river was the push I needed to get the camera out again. This winter was a time of transition for me -- I've had three jobs in the past six months -- and I took a monthslong hiatus from the photography.

Too long. But I think I'm going to stick with this latest job for awhile, and I've adjusted to the schedule, so it's time to get back to more regular creative endeavors.

New life on the river seems like a fitting fresh start.
