My Experience Working in My Own Business

Greetings, friends of Hive and @weekendexperiences, today I'm participating again in the initiative proposed by @galenkp, where he presents several topics for us to select, and I share my experience and learn about those of other Hive users.

It's worth noting that after I graduated from university in Computer Science, I remember not being able to find a job in any private company because I was a young man with no experience, and so I had to find a way to generate income to support my parents' household. So my brother and I bought a computer, and I started working for myself from home. My job consisted of writing any type of computer work: resumes, research papers, theses, and many other things.

One of the things I needed to improve in this job was that I didn't have an internet connection and I didn't have a photocopier. Over time, I bought another computer and a printer. This job was tough because while some were on vacation, I was working and pulling all-nighters to get work done for clients. I held this job for over five years. Later, my brothers bought a video store that sold and rented movies, and I started working at the family's video store.

In this business, I also performed computer work, meaning we rented movies to customers. I also did computer work for about three years. It's not easy working with people; some are good customers, while others are also problematic. Sometimes they didn't return the movies, and you had to visit the person to get them back. Other times, they were lost over time.

Also during the school year, I had a lot of work, from high school to university, but when the students went on vacation, I was practically unemployed because I didn't have the clients that the students were. That's why I later studied education to earn a steady salary and enjoy a pension.

It was an experience being in this field, where I was kept up to date with the latest films and also the older ones, which were very good. The films were rented on VHS, then on DVD. Over time, the business dwindled in sales, and it finally had to close. The only downside was that I didn't get any time off; I worked Monday through Sunday, and the more I worked, the more I earned. But there were times when I felt exhausted and needed a vacation.
