Las Dunas Beach

Playa las Dunas has been my playground every summer for as long as I can remember.

I grew up enjoying this beach, listening to the meteorologists and researchers, pulling the tides, whales, and the state of the animals.

I remember one time they were very concerned about the number of lion fish that inhabited the waters, considered an invasive species in the Caribbean and that contact with their fins can be deadly, as they are poisonous.

Another time we ran to the shore of the beach because there was a beached whale. I never forget that they collected its bones and exhibited them in a small museum where I could also read information about the flora and fauna of the region. There were samples of the different types of sand, in short, it was my favorite place, and I always came back to observe the skeleton of that impressive animal.

That's why it hurts me so much to see how people come and leave their garbage everywhere. They have no idea how important it is to take care of the ecosystem, which after all affects us more than we realize.

Today I come with my camera trying to capture a little bit of that magic that still remains. As I watch a little girl in the distance playing in the sand and I identify myself too much, I have so many beautiful memories here.

Anyway, today begins a three-day adventure that of course I will share with you. Will you join me?

Playa las Dunas es mi parque de diversiones cada verano desde que tengo consciencia.

Crecí disfrutando esta playa, escuchando a los meteorólogos e investigadores, halando de las mareas, ballenas, y el estado de los animales.

Recuerdo que una vez estaban muy preocupados por la cantidad de peces León que habitaban las aguas, considerada especie invasora del Caribe y que además el contacto con sus aletas puede ser mortal, ya que son venenosos.

En otra ocasión fuimos corriendo a la orilla de la playa porque había una ballena varada. Nunca olvido que recolectaron sus huesos y los exhibían en un pequeño museo donde también podía leer información sobre la flora y la fauna de la región.

Había muestras de los diferentes tipos de arena, en fin, era mi lugar favorito, y siempre volvía a observar el esqueleto de aquel impresionante animal.

Por eso me duele tanto ver cómo las personas llegan y dejan su basura por todas partes. No tiene ni idea de lo importante que es el cuidado del ecosistema, que al fin y al cabo nos afecta más a nosotros de lo que nos imaginamos.

Hoy vengo con mi cámara intentando captar un poquito de esa magia que aún queda. Mientras observo a una niña a lo lejos jugando en la arena y me identifico demasiado, tengo tantos lindos recuerdos aquí.

En fin, hoy comienza una aventura de tres días que por supuesto compartiré contigo. ¿Me acompañas?
