Strings as lines in photography and as protagonists in photography

Hey there,

I've spent about an hour going through my photo library and I've barely found any photos that contain ropes, which is the theme of this week's Qurator Photo Quest contest organized by @qurator this week.

With a little care I have found some photos that I think you might like as they use the ropes to give weight to the protagonists of the photographs or because they are the protagonist themselves.

Pirate hanging from the strings of the galleon

The use of lines that lead us to the protagonist of our photos is always something I have in mind when I take my photographs today, using roads, curbs or any element that allows me to give a greater protagonist of the scene.

This first photo I share with you was taken inside a bar/restaurant in a shopping mall in Lugo a year ago.

My entry to Qurator´s Photo Quest: Strings

At that time, I was still taking pictures with my phone without taking into account certain rules of composition. But today, after reviewing all my photos, I realized that a crop, a background blur and due to the creepiness of seeing a skeleton of a pirate hanging from the ropes of a galleon, it was perfect to edit it in black and white to submit it to the contest.

A walk in the mountains

In July last year and after months of taking photos with a little more sense and order, I visited the route of the Xanas with my coworkers.

The route was spectacular for being able to share a day of fellowship and enjoying the mountains and views along the route.

However, there were certainly dangerous places where the ropes anchored to the wall were of help to the feeling of vertigo caused by the gorge.

These ropes, which were helpful to have a point of attachment and additional security, were also useful to me photographically, since after a cut and placing the rope departure in one of the corners, they help me to bring my eyes to my friends and companions in this endearing photograph.

Porcia's swing

In July, a few days after doing the Xanas route, I went to the vicinity of Porcia beach with some friends.

At sunset, my friend María, knowing that I had been practicing for months with my camera, asked me to take some pictures of her on one of the most photographed swings in Spain.

Of course, the ropes also helped me in the composition of the photograph. But this time without thinking about it. Already innately, my eye looked for how to use the lines of the ropes to give more strength to my composition.

Rope swing

But sometimes, ropes are not only the vehicles to give strength to a protagonist, they are also the protagonists of the scene themselves.

Specifically, in this circular shape swing formed by ropes projected a sharp and striking shadow that I could not miss, since every week I participate in the shadow hunting contest organized by @melinda010100 to which I invite you to participate from these lines.

Best regards, friends.
