WINTER HIKE TO ADAMS WATERFALL
I have hiked to this waterfall several times in spring and summer, and finally got up to it last winter after a friend had posted her photos from there.
I don't usually much hiking or snowshoeing in winter because I've come to be a homebody in the winter the last few years, but I just knew I had to get a winter photo of this waterfall. I reached out to my friend to ask if she used snowshoes or micro spikes, and she said just micro spikes so I headed to my local REI and picked up a pair of spikes.
Adams Canyon is 3.8 miles long with 1,430 feet of elevation gain. It's a thigh burner for sure. Add in some snow and ice and you'll definitely burn off some calories.
I arrived to the falls just before sunset and was hoping for a few clouds in the sky but instead I was fortunate have a half moon kinda line up for me.
Shooting with a wide angle (16-35mm) didn't allow me to really show the moon as large as it felt in real life. I shot around for a bit after the sun had set to get a nice blue hour glow, then I headed back down the now much icier path. I was very glad I purchased the micro spikes because they saved my life on the hike down.
I definitely plan on getting back up there this winter and will hope for some nice clouds, and maybe some more snow.

Wow, a beautiful place and the photos are spectacular.
Thank you! I often forget how easily accessible some beautiful places around me.
Sounds like quite the adventure Casey! Those Falls look great partially frozen in the evening light!
Awesome shots. I would love to go out hiking this winter to some waterfalls, but man, I hate being cold. lol
Haha, I'm the same. Fortunately it wasn't bitter cold and hiking definitely kept me warm. I just wore a long sleeve thermal shirt on the hike up.
Looks beautiful, great shots! Did you use crampons or something. High chance to fall and get your head smashed 😬
Here the winter played in your favor, the fact that it is frozen makes everything look more beautiful, really what a beautiful landscape you managed to capture.
It's very beautiful place!

Love me a good winter hike! Looks beautiful!
