Visiting Parque Salto Ventoso in Farroupilha, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil [EN/PT-BR]

Despite living in the Serra Gaúcha, in the south of Brazil, I still didn't know the Parque do Salto Ventoso, in Farroupilha. Historic location and used by several national film locations. You can get there from Garibaldi or Farroupilha, cities that are approximately twelve kilometers from the access to the park. The ticket costs only two dollars per person and includes parking.

The park has trails, lookouts, a bar and restaurant, as well as ATV rides, rappelling and zip lines. Salto Ventoso is located in an area of native forest that was inhabited by the indigenous Kaingang people. From 1868, the first immigrants arrived who ended up having a confrontation with the indigenous people, who even kidnapped a family according to the story told in the park itself.

The waterfall is the main attraction, the 56-meter-high waterfall is over a cave two hundred meters long and 25 meters high. A metallic walkway allows visitors to pass behind the curtain of water with a privileged view behind the fall, providing an immersive experience through the look, sound and also felt by the splash of water.

The park has also been the setting for many movies and soap operas. Among the films shot there are Prova de Courage, with aerial and climbing scenes; O Quatrilho, nominated for the Oscar for best foreign film in 1996, with the iconic kiss scene, with the waterfall in the background, reproduced until today by visitors; in addition to the miniseries about the colonial period in Brazil, O Quinto dos Infernos, released in 2002.

Apesar de morar na serra gaúcha, no sul do Brasil, ainda não conhecia o Parque do Salto Ventoso, em Farroupilha. Local histórico e utilizado por várias locações de filmes nacionais. Dá para chegar lá a partir de Garibaldi ou de Farroupilha, cidades que ficam a cerca de doze quilômetros em média do acesso ao parque. O ingresso custa apenas dez reais por pessoa e inclui estacionamento.

O parque conta com trilhas, mirantes, bar e restaurante, além de passeios de quadriciclo, rapel e tirolesa. O Salto Ventoso localiza-se em uma área de mata nativa que era habitada pelo povo indígena Kaingang. A partir de 1868, chegaram os primeiros imigrantes que acabaram tendo confronto com os indígenas, que chegaram a sequestrar uma família segundo a história contada no próprio parque.

A cascata é a atração principal, a queda d'água de 56 metros de altura está sobre uma gruta de duzentos metros de comprimento e 25 metros de altura. Uma passarela metálica permite aos visitantes passar atrás da cortina d'água com uma vista privilegiada por trás da queda proporcionando uma experiência imersiva pelo visual, pelo som e sentida também pelos respingos da água.

O parque também já foi cenário de muitos filmes e novelas. Entre os filmes gravados no local estão Prova de Coragem, com cenas aéreas e de escalada; O Quatrilho, indicado ao Oscar de melhor filme estrangeiro de 1996, com a cena icônica do beijo, com a queda d'água ao fundo, reproduzido até hoje pelos visitantes; além da minissérie sobre o período colonial do Brasil, O Quinto dos Infernos, lançada em 2002.
