Harvesting organic grapes in southern Brazil

In southern Brazil, the beginning of the year is the time for the grape harvest, one of the most traditional crops in the mountain region.

As the region received many Italian immigrants, the vines are abundant and the source of income for many families. I grew up in one of these families and harvesting is part of the tradition.

In this vineyard, all the grapes are organic, that is, without the use of pesticides. To this end, a cover was provided to protect the grapes from insects and the weather.

The harvest is done manually by breaking the branch or cutting it with scissors and the grapes are stored in boxes, which are stacked and transported by tractors.

Because are organic grapes, they can be consumed in natura without worrying about washing them carefully to remove the poison like most grapes sold on the market.
