Monomad Challenge: Rain and the same people [ENG/ESP]

Greetings to everyone in the Black and White community! Today I'm joining you here to share a new collection of photographs. The images were taken during my visit to downtown San Félix, Bolívar state, Venezuela. Today was a special day because after several busy days, I was able to go out after work to spend time with my partner: visit the center, get something to eat together, and, very objectively, take as many photographs as possible. Whenever we go out to take photographs, we try to walk a lot and see every corner we can, to get a lot of material. The weather in the city was quite changeable, so at times we had very good light, but then the sky clouded over and everything became dark. Until a certain point, torrential rain finally fell, and we had to wait a bit before continuing.

¡Saludos a todos en la comunidad de Black and White! El día de hoy me uno por aquí para compartir con ustedes una nueva recopilación fotográfica. Las imágenes fueron tomadas durante mi visita al centro de San Félix, estado Bolívar, Venezuela. Hoy fue un día especial pues luego de varios días ocupada, pude salir después del trabajo a compartir con mi pareja: visitar el centro, comer algo juntos y muy objetivamente, tomar tantas fotografías como se pudieran. Siempre que salimos a tomar fotografías, tratamos de caminar bastante y ver cada rincón que podamos, para obtener bastante material. El clima en la ciudad estuvo bastante cambiante por lo que en algunos momentos tuvimos muy buena luz, pero luego, se nublaba el cielo y se oscurecida todo. Hasta que llegó cierto punto en el que finalmente cayó la lluvia torrencial y debimos esperar un poco antes de continuar.

The great thing about taking photographs before and after the rain is that even if you photograph the same thing, something always changes. It's like that phenomenon that makes the streets look like they've been washed by the rain, and even the people seem to take on a different attitude. From hectic to calm. Here in Ciudad Guayana, people are very different from those in Valencia (my hometown). They tend to walk more calmly, with a heavy step, as if contemplating everything. An acquaintance told me that here (in Puerto Ordaz) everyone gets up early and the day ends early. People don't give themselves a hard time. Life is very calm, as it's also a small city. Unlike in Valencia, people still get up early, but they walk with such energy that they can't stop. Always in a frenzy. And this isn't Caracas. When it rains there, it seems to "stir up the hornets' nest" (hahaha).

But it all boils down to the fact that, although each city is different, everyone seems to enjoy the same things: walking through their downtown areas, buying something to share with the family, sitting in the plaza in the middle of the day, meeting others, and even enjoying the moment when the rain falls (everyone runs or hides) and when it stops. That's something very human and at the same time very beautiful. So I try to capture those moments and share them here. Everyone lives in their own world at that time. Lo bueno de tomar fotografías antes y después de las lluvias, es que aunque se fotografie lo mismo, siempre cambia algo. Es cómo ese fenómeno que hace que las calles parezcan haber sido lavadas por la lluvia y hasta la gente, parece asumir una actitud diferente. De agitado a la calma. Aquí en Ciudad Guayana, las personas son muy diferentes a cómo son en Valencia (mi ciudad natal), suelen caminar más tranquilamente, con un paso pesado y como contemplando todo. Una conocida me decía que aquí (en Puerto Ordaz) todos se levantan temprano y el día termina temprano. Las personas no se dan mala vida. Se vive con mucha calma, pues también es una ciudad pequeña. A diferencia de Valencia, las personas igual se levantan temprano pero caminan con una energía que no permite detener el paso. Siempre en frenesí. Y eso que no es Caracas. Cuando llueve allá, parece que más bien "alborota le avispero" (jajaja).

Pero todo se resume a que, aunque cada ciudad es diferente, todos parecen disfrutar de lo mismo: caminar sus centros, comprar algo para compartir en familia, sentarse en la plaza a mitad del día, encontrarse con otros y hasta gozar del momento cuando cae la lluvia (todos corren o se esconden) y cuando escampa. Eso es algo muy humano y a la vez muy bello. Así que trato de tomar esos momentos y compartirlos por aquí. Casa quién en su momento, en su propio mundo.
