Finally I decided to reveal more about the project I was shooting for few months ago in Rijeka, Croatia. My association members & I had an idea to start printing T-shirts, bags & post cards with the hidden & yet unrevealed motifs of the town. One of my assignment was making good quality photos so I was going around the city in several occasions & tried to do my best. The next photos are the ones I had selected for printing...
Post cards
Rijeka has a long history of secret societies as free masons & other similar guilds. Already in the motifs for the postcards you will be able to notice the symbolism of those secret organizations. I intentionally made them all in black and white technique to look a bit retro & as much arty as possible.
Almost on the same square, separated only by the road, stand 2 very strong motifs of the town: communist liberation from & win against the fascists & Nazis in combination with the Christian cross. As the people of the world are getting more & more conscious, I hope we are all starting to comprehend that all these titles, symbols, religions & ideologies serve only for the purpose to divide us - the people, brothers & sister, powerful & born in love & freedom - so to be easily controlled by the managers of the system who get all our energy & sacrifice us to fulfill the demands of dark, black magic of the Cult of Death.
It was the carnival time of which I was writing so many times. It is a diabolic, demonic Roman or even much older tradition which can be translated as the "Meat Festival" (in Italian "carne" is meat & "val" comes from ball which is a gathering celebration for some cause. But it actually comes from the name of a pre-ancient demon from the Middle East - Bhaal - which by some historians was worshiped by many Jewish tribes & also might be the Satan itself. Bhaal demanded human sacrifice (meat & blood) & so we have carnival still today & Satan is still getting souls.
Rijeka hosts the 3rd biggest carnival in the world while the 2-headed eagle watches from the watchtower over the town's center holding a bucket with ever-flowing water. Rijeka means "river" cause it has so much natural clean drinkable water sources all around the town including the river Rječina. So, who masters the water, masters the life of the people too! The eagle is the master of the sky but this one has 2 heads - 1 of the Austrian master & the other of the Hungarian - cause the town was long time under the foreign rule of Austrian & Hungarian crowns. The eagle firmly holds the water bucket & rules over it. Funny thing is that over all these Cult-of-Death symbolism sits an alive & free seagull & shits upon the head of one eagle - as it needs to be shit upon any rule of some human or any other being over any freeborn human being.
The caste of Trsat I intentionally shot only as a silhouette. Originally, it was the property of Croatian royal family who ruled a vast land from Istria in the West to Dalmatia in the South-East, including many islands & parts of Slovenia & Karlovac in the North & some parts of Bosnia & Hercegovina in the East. This royal family was murdered by the Austrian ruling Habsburg family who feared of Croatian independence so they intentionally murdered the Frankopan & Zrinski families to prolong their rule over Croatian people. This castle is actually on the East side of the river Rječina which splits the town in 2 parts which at some times of the history was really also politically divided between different rulers. The East town was called Sušak - which can be translated as the "dried land" - and it is really dry, not even near so much water the West part called Rijeka.
After the fall of Austrian empire, it was bought by the Irish family Nugent who apparently did a lot for Croatian people. The Nugents were kind of benefactors for Croatians or at least they tried to create this picture of them. Anyway Nugents were buying many of Frankopan & Zrinski castles & tried to renovate them. There will be more about the Nugent family further in this post.
I don't have much to write about this lighthouse. I just like how it looks & it also is a specific symbol of Rijeka so I took a shot of it.
So we go back to the Nugent family. This dragon look-a-like creature was the coat of arms of the Nugent family. It is a statue which still stand inside of the Trsat castle. There isn't any sign or mention of the Frankopan family there anymore.
T-shirts & Bags
The following shots have a different format then those of postcards.
The cranes are already overused symbols of Rijeka, blended with many souvenirs of many artists but still they are so attractive to shoot that I also couldn't resist.
This symbol of a bat is very significant & noticed & known by very few people. The legend say it is also a sign of some secret society which means that in this building is their meeting point. I was climbing on leathers to shoot this one & it is maybe the best shot I did & already many people want to buy a product with this print. Anyway, I don't know much about it & I don't even know if there are any data about the meaning of this symbol. Anyway, it managed to stay quite a secret all the way to nowadays.
Another silhouette of another castle which was property of the Frankopan family. This is a Grobnik castle which is still being renovated today with an intention to be preserved.

Propeller is a great symbol of Rijeka cause torpedo was invented here. It is nothing to be proud of from my side cause this invention made us kill each other even more all around the world. For this shot I also climbed the leathers & did a lot of editing to get this result.
All in all, the viewer can see a lot of symbolism in the chosen motifs & make it's own conclusion. I would want to impose mine & I leave you the chance to make your own.
