It was my first time being in Charleston, SC and I would say it was pretty much as I expected if I'm honest. Sourthern charm with some waterfront highlighting a little sailing on the day we were there. The wind was pretty stiff, but there was a race happening out in the bay and for Captain Bob....that's always fun to watch for a bit.

The downtown is a mixture of classic and brick. The "Rainbow Row" of houses is beautiful and the colors definitely provide a splash of character that lights up the street. There is a mixture of tourist and local fair to be had with horse drawn carriage rides showing out of towners all the famous sights. Couple this with some nifty art pieces, classic cemetaries with historical figures tombstones, and a short drive to see the famous "Angel Oak" and you have a really nice day of exploring.

Speaking of the "Angel Oak"...I at first thought this would not be much to see. I've seen large oaks. In fact we have the largest Burr Oak tree in the nation just a few short miles of where I live. However, upon arriving, it was truly pretty majestic in person. As the largest live oak tree east of the Mississippi, this thing really has some history. Estimated at 300-400 years old (when really no one knows for sure), 65 feet high with a circumference of 25.5 feet...this tree is quite beautiful. If you are ever in the area, drop by and have a look. It's free of charge and a fun drive out to locate.

Hey there @captainbob
OMGoodness, I am excited to see a photo from Charleston SC !
I was born there at the Naval Hospital quite a few years ago... LoL
I love seeing photos of there that are not the usual main tourist drag.
My BFF and Hubby went there abt 10 years ago. It was starting to get dark as they were walking around, by some antique shops. They were about alone on the streets.
Bon just happened to look behind her. She caught a glimpse of a woman dressed in a long dress, that wasn't from our time period. The lady made a quick turn into the entrance to a shop. And then she was Gone !
Needless to say, the shop was all dark inside, like it was closed. They didn't bother with trying the door. They started walking a little faster after that. 👻💀
