Hello Hivians!
Today it's all about astrophotography. When looking for places that are suitable for astrophotography, my friend Rodrigo's property in Minas Gerais (Brazil) is at the top of the list. In the greater Sao Paulo area, the light pollution is so great that you have to drive at least 150km out of the city to see the Milky Way. Rodrigo's property is over 200km away, very idyllically situated in a hilly landscape. On its 12ha there are also many charming views that are perfect for a photo with a starry sky.
The last time we visited Rodrigo and Renata in the countryside was at the turn of the year. Unfortunately, the weather didn't play ball back then. It rained almost all the time and the sky was always cloudy.
This time it looked much better. The weather was cloudless, the moon phase was during the day and there was hardly any light pollution, which is a good prerequisite for astrophotography. So off we went!
Heute geht es um Sternfotografie. Auf der Suche nach Orten, die für die Astrofotografie geeignet sind, liegt das Grundstück von meinem Freund Rodrigo in Minas Gerais (Brasilien) ganz weit vorn. Im Großraum von Sao Paulo ist die Lichtverschmutzung so groß, dass man mindestens 150km aus der Stadt fahren muss, um die Milchstraße zu sehen. Rodrigos Grundstück ist über 200km entfernt , sehr idyllisch, in einer hügeligen Landschaft gelegen. Auf seinen 12ha gibt es auch viele reizvolle Ausblicke, die sich für ein Foto mit Sternenhimmel eignen.
Zum Jahreswechsel besuchten wir Rodrigo und Renata das letzte Mal dort auf dem Land. Das Wetter spielte damals leider nicht mit. Es regnete fast die ganze Zeit und der Himmel war stets wolkenverhangen.
Diesmal sah es schon viel besser aus. Das Wetter wolkenfrei, Mondphase eher Tagsüber, und kaum Lichtverschmutzung das ist eine gute Voraussetzung für Astrofotografie. Also nichts wie hin!

Four of us traveled there in a small off-road vehicle. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough space in the car for all my equipment. I only took my photo backpack with me, including a few flashlights and two tripods.
The journey there is difficult. Although we only live 140 km away, a little off the beaten track from Sao Paulo, it took us 3 hours to get there. It's also better to use a four-wheel drive vehicle there. It wouldn't be the first time that we got stuck in the wet mud on the tracks off the main road. But this time it stayed dry.
Wir reisten zu viert in einem kleinen Geländewagen dort an. Leider war für mein gesamtes Equipment nicht genügend Platz im Auto. Nur mein Fotorucksack inklusive einiger Taschenlampen und zwei Stative hatte ich mitgenommen.
Der Weg dorthin ist beschwerlich. Obwohl wir nur 140km entfernt, etwas abseits von Sao Paulo wohnen, benötigten wir 3 Stunden Fahrtzeit. Es ist auch besser, dort ein Fahrzeug mit Allradantrieb zu benutzen. Es wäre nicht das erste Mal, dass wir auf den Pisten abseits der Hauptstraße mit dem Auto im nassen Schlamm stecken bleiben. Diesmal blieb es aber trocken.

The property is located at an altitude of 1200 - 1400 meters above sea level. During the day it is pleasantly warm at 25°C. At night, the temperature dropped to 10°C, so I had to mount a lens heater on the lens to prevent it from fogging up.
Das Grundstück befindet sich auf einer Höhe 1200 - 1400 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel. Tagsüber ist es mit 25°C angenehm warm. Nachts sank die Temperatur auf 10°C, so dass ich eine Objektivheizung auf die Linse montieren mußte, damit die Linse nicht beschlägt.

It took me a while to find the right settings. The VILTROX on the NIKON Z5 has the ability to adjust the focus when the camera goes into standby mode. I didn't notice this immediately on the small camera display. As a result, the first MilkyWay series was blurred. The next day, I updated the software on the lens, calibrated it again and assigned the focus buttons to infinity and 2 meters. I then tried again in the evening. Once again, everything was in focus. Sometimes it just takes a little longer to reach your goal.
Es hat ein wenig gedauert, bis ich die richtigen Einstellungen gefunden habe. Das VILTROX hat an der NIKON Z5 die Eigenschaft, die Schärfe zu verstellen, wenn die Kamera in den Standby-Modus geht. Auf dem kleinen Kameradisplay hatte ich das nicht sofort bemerkt. Dadurch wurde die erste MilkyWay-Serie unscharf abgelichtet. Am nächsten Tag aktualisierte ich die Software auf dem Objektiv, Kalibrierte es erneut und belegte die Tasten mit dem Focus unendlich und 2 Meter. Am Abend startete ich dann erneut einen Versuch. Dismal wurde alles scharf abgelichtet. Manchmal dauert es eben etwas länger, bis man an das Ziel gelangt.

The cover image was stacked from 240 images. The photos with the Milky Way were taken without a start tracker in a single exposure. The NIKON Z5 was undefined modified and equipped with a KOLARI UVRI CUT filter for these shots.
As beautiful as the night sky in Bueno Brandão is, the airplanes crossing the sky at high altitude every minute are a nuisance. But there is always something. I had to do a lot of reworking on the PC, at least on the star trails. I left the shooting stars that were photographed in the picture.
The next photo is a search picture. Find the cattle! The moon was still hiding behind the horizon when I took this picture. That night the moon rose at 00:25. I pressed the shutter release on the camera at 00:09. You can see some cattle on the horizon.
Das Titelbild wurde aus 240 Bildern gestackt. Die Fotos mit der Milchstraße entstanden ohne Startracker in einer einzigen Belichtung. Die NIKON Z5 ist undefiniert modifiziert worden und war für diese aufnahmen mit einem KOLARI UVRI CUT -Filter bestückt.
So schön der Nachthimmel in Bueno Brandão auch ist, so stören doch die Flugzeuge, die den Himmel in großer Höhe im Minutentakt kreuzen. Aber irgendwas ist ja immer. Ich mußte zumindest an den Sternspuren viel Nacharbeit am PC leisten. Die Sternschnuppen die mit abgelichtet wurden ließ ich im Bild.
Das nächste Foto ist ein Suchbild. Finde die Rinder! Der Mond versteckte sich noch hinter dem Horizont, als ich dieses Bild aufnahm. In dieser Nacht ging der Mond um 00:25 auf. Um 00:09 Uhr betätigte ich den Auslöser an der Kamera. Zu sehen sind einige Rinder am Horizont.

What Is Light Painting?
Light painting is a unique art form. As a rule, the darkness is illuminated by the artist with various light sources and traces of light are painted into the picture with various lighting tools. Various techniques are used, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. When using ND filters, this technique can also be used in daylight. All images were taken during a single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cropping and possibly adjusting the white balance, the images are not processed on the computer.
Lichtmalerei ist eine einzigartige Kunstform. In der Regel wird die Dunkelheit mit diversen Lichtquellen vom Künstler ausgeleuchtet und Lichtspuren mit diversen Lichtwerkzeugen ins Bild gemalt. Dabei kommen verschiedene Techniken zum Einsatz, wie Kamerarotation oder andere Bewegungen der Kamera während der Belichtung. Die kreativen Möglichkeiten sind nahezu unbegrenzt. Bei Einsatz von ND-Filtern kann diese Technik auch bei Tageslicht angewand werden. Alle Bilder wurden während einer einzigen Belichtung aufgenommen. Abgesehen vom Entrauschen, Schärfen, Beschneiden und eventuellem Anpassen des Weißabgleichs werden die Bilder nicht am Computer bearbeitet.

Dass der Fokus des Viltrox sich gerne verstellt, ist sehr ärgerlich. Ich konnte bisher keine vernünftige Lösung für das Problem finden. Gerade bei niedriger Temperaturen tritt das häufig auf. Sehr kurios.
Ja, leider. Immerhin mußte ich mich jetzt mehr damit auseinandersetzen. Das bringt ja auch schon einige zusätzliche Erkenntnisse und Workarounds. 😉 Irgendwann stimmen dann auch die Ergebnisse.
Hoffentlich gibt's irgendwann ein Firmware Update, mit dem das zuverlässig funktioniert. Wobei mir immernoch nicht klar ist, ob es an der Kamera oder am Objektiv liegt.
Ich denke, dass es die Kamera ist.
Schöne Action .. ich mag auch das "making of foto" .. mit dir im und deiner kamera! cool cool!
Danke! Das Making of Foto wäre in scharf noch besser. Irgendwas ist ja immer. Ärgerlich, wenn man weiß wie es geht und es dann doch scheitert. Also bleibt es eine Idee für die nächsten Aktionen.
