Today, for once, it's not about light painting. I often go hiking in the forest. Equipped with a camera, sometimes with binoculars or, in the worst case, just with my smartphone. Sometimes with friends, sometimes with my wife or even alone. I find the phenomenon particularly fascinating when the sun shines through the fog and the sunlight is cut into “stripes” by the trees. To capture these moments, I often head out into the forest when it's foggy, even if it's cold and uncomfortable.
Heute geht es ausnahmsweise mal nicht um ein Light-Painting. Sehr oft gehe ich im Wald wandern. Ausgerüstet mit einer Kamera, manchmal mit einem Fernglas oder im schlechtesten Fall nur mit dem Smartphone. Mal mit Freunden, mal mit meiner Frau oder auch allein. Besonders faszinierend finde ich das Phänomen, wenn die Sonne durch den Nebel scheint und das Sonnenlicht durch die Bäume in "Streifen" geschnitten wird. Um diese Momente einzufangen, treibt es mich oft bei Nebel raus in den Wald, auch wenn es ungemütlich und kalt ist.

When I look out of the window towards the Teutoburg Forest in the morning, I occasionally notice a weather phenomenon: the clouds move from the north-east side of the mountain over the hilltop to the sunny south side, where they disperse. Then I usually can't stay at home any longer and go for a little hike.
Wenn ich am Morgen aus dem Fenster in Richtung Teutoburger Wald schaue, beobachte ich hin und wieder ein Wetterphänomen, dass sich die Wolken von der Nord-Ostseite des Berges über die Kuppe auf die sonnige Südseite schieben und dort auflösen. Dann hält es mich meist nicht mehr zu Hause und ich gehe eine kleine Runde wandern.
On the day I took the cover picture and the following shot, I had two cameras with me in the forest. A NIKON Z5 converted to full spectrum with a Meike MK-EFTZ-C VND drop-in filter autofocus mount lens adapter for Canon EF/EF-S lenses to Nikon Z series on a CANON EF16-35mm ƒ4L IS USM lens and a normal Z5 with a Viltrox AF 16/1.8 Z lens. I had two IR drop-in filters with me for the lens adapter. One 650nm and one 550nm.
An dem Tag, an dem ich das Titelbild und die folgende Aufnahme aufgenommen habe, hatte ich zwei Kameras mit in den Wald genommen. Eine auf Vollspektrum umgebaute NIKON Z5 mit einem Meike MK-EFTZ-C VND Drop-In Filter Autofokus Mount Objektivadapter für Canon EF/EF-S Objektive auf Nikon Z Serie an einem CANON EF16-35mm ƒ4L IS USM Objektiv und eine normale Z5 mit einem Viltrox AF 16/1.8 Z Objektiv. Für den Objektivadapter hatte ich zwei IR-Drop-In Filter im Gepäck. Einen 650nm und einen 550nm.

Unfortunately, that wasn't a really good idea. I had to realize that IR images in fog are not necessarily an advantage. I wasn't able to bring out any special color effects in the post-processing.
Leider war das keine richtig gute Idee. Ich musste feststellen, dass IR-Aufnahmen im Nebel nicht unbedingt ein Gewinn sind. In der Nachbearbeitung konnte ich keine besonderen Farbeffekte zur Geltung bringen.

I didn't manage to get the shots I wanted that day. The fog persisted until midday and I still had an appointment. So I hiked back towards the house.
Die gewünschten Aufnahmen sind mir an diesem Tag nicht gelungen. Der Nebel hielt sich zäh bis zum Mittag und ich hatte noch einen Termin. Also wanderte ich in Richtung Haus zurück.

So today I'm going back to slightly older photos.
In January, I was walking with my wife through the forest to a restaurant a few kilometers from our house. I didn't have a camera with me. Fog was gathering. Where is the camera when you need it? In this case, the camera is the best one to have with you. In this case, a smartphone.
Also greife ich heute auf etwas ältere Aufnahmen zurück.
Im Januar wanderte ich mit meiner Frau durch den Wald zu einem Restaurant, wenige Kilometer von unserem Haus entfernt. Eine Kamera führte ich nicht mit mir. Es zog Nebel auf. Wo ist die Kamera, wenn man sie braucht? In diesem Fall ist die Kamera die beste, die man bei sich trägt. In diesem Fall ein Smartphone.

Of course, there is also an app that allows you to set the smartphone camera manually. In my case, I was satisfied with the semi-automatic mode. After all, it is possible to take photos with the smartphone in RAW format, which opens up some possibilities for post-processing.
Natürlich gibt es auch eine App mit der man die Smartphone-Kamera manuell einstellen könnte. In meinem Fall gab ich mich mit der Halbautomatik zufrieden. Immerhin ist es möglich mit dem Smartphone im RAW-Format zu fotografieren, was für das Post Processing einige Möglichkeiten offen hält.

In the end, I did manage to take a few pictures as I described at the beginning. The sun cut through the fog with its bright light.
Schliesslich gelangen mir doch noch einige Aufnahmen, wie ich sie eingangs beschrieben habe. Die Sonne durchschnitt den Nebel mit ihrem grellen Licht.

I took the following photo back in 2014 during a hike with friends through the Teutoburg Forest. I still find the play of the sun in the fog very exciting today. I hope you enjoyed this little journey through the forest and I'll see you back here on my blog next week. So stay tuned!
Bereits 2014 schoss ich das folgende Foto während einer Wanderung mit Freunden durch den Teutoburger Wald. Das Spiel der Sonne im Nebel finde ich bis heute sehr spannend. Nebel und Infrarot wird meist Matschepampe. Aber Du hättest doch das Filter einfach rausnehmen können.
Letztendlich fand ich die monochromen Aufnahmen am reizvollsten.
