Light Painting Of The Fantastic World Of Jellyfish

Jellyfish belong to the cnidarian phylum, consist of 99% water and are some of the strangest animals on earth. The diameter of jellyfish varies from one millimeter to several meters. Depending on the species, the tentacles are a few centimetres to 20 meters long and are used for defense and hunting.
Quallen gehören zum Stamm der Nesseltiere, bestehen zu 99% aus Wasser und sind Teil der merkwürdigsten Tiere der Erde. Die Durchmesser der Quallen variieren von einen Millimeter bis zu mehreren Metern. Die Tentakel sind je nach Art wenige Zentimeter bis zu 20 Meter lang und dienen der Verteidigung und der Jagd.

The pictures have been lying dormant on my hard drive since October 2019. I just haven't managed to continue the theme yet. I had actually planned to use the series to decorate our bathroom. Some projects just take a little longer to mature 😉. Today I want to take you into the fantastic world of jellyfish.
Seit Oktober 2019 schlummern die Bilder schon auf meiner Festplatte. Ich habe es einfach noch nicht geschafft, das Thema weiterzuführen. Eigentlich hatte ich die Serie geplant, um unser Bad damit zu dekorieren. Manche Projekte reifen eben etwas länger 😉. Heute möchte ich euch in die fantastische Welt der Quallen mitnehmen.

An LEDLenser P7QC was used for these light paintings, a ROUND FIBER OPTIC 10mm, which was formed into a semicircle by a steel wire, and an EL-Wire were used. The ROUND FIBER OPTIC was moved 180° forwards to paint the jellyfish body. The tentacles and the green circles were brought into the picture with an EL-Wire.
Bei diesen Lightpaintings kamen eine LEDLenser P7QC, ein ROUND FIBER OPTIC 10mm, welches durch einen Stahldraht zu einem Halbkreis geformt wurde und ein EL-Wire zum Einsatz. Die ROUND FIBER OPTIC wurde 180° nach vorn bewegt um den Quallenkörper zu malen. Die Tentakel und die grünen Kreise wurden durch ein EL-Wire ins Bild gebracht.

Before the light painting, I researched photos of jellyfish in nature so that I could then trace them with the light sources mentioned above.
Vor dem Lightpainting recherchierte ich nach Fotos von Quallen in der Natur, um sie danach mit den oben genannten Lichtquellen nachzuzeichnen.

After the first few attempts, I became bolder and used slightly more intense colors.
Nach den ersten Versuchen wurde ich mutiger und setzte etwas intensivere Farben ein.

During a sailing trip around Mallorca, I had a painful encounter with these creatures. When we jumped off the boat into the water in the morning and swam towards the shore, we came across a swarm of jellyfish close to the shore. The pain they inflicted on us with the stinging cells on their tentacles is something you never forget. We quickly turned around and fled. Since then, I've preferred to watch the medusae from a distance.
Während einer Segeltour um Mallorca hatte ich eine schmerzhafte Begegnung mit diesen Lebewesen. Als wir morgens vom Boot ins Wasser sprangen und Richtung Ufer schwammen, trafen wir in Ufernähe auf einen Schwarm Quallen. Die Schmerzen die sie uns mit ihren Nesselzellen an den Tentakel zufügten vergisst man nie. Wir drehten schnell um und flohen. Seitdem beobachte ich die Medusen lieber aus der Ferne.

However, I find the aesthetics of jellyfish fascinating. For me, observing the movements of these creatures has a similarly relaxing effect as looking at a fire.
Allerdings finde ich die Ästhetik der Quallen faszinierend. Für mich hat die Beobachtung der Bewegungsabläufe dieser Lebewesen eine ähnlich entspannende Wirkung wie der Blick auf ein Kaminfeuer.

What Is Light Painting?

Light painting is a unique art form. As a rule, the darkness is illuminated by the artist with various light sources and traces of light are painted into the picture with various lighting tools. Various techniques are used, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. When using ND filters, this technique can also be used in daylight. All images were taken during a single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cropping and possibly adjusting the white balance, the images are not processed on the computer.
Lichtmalerei ist eine einzigartige Kunstform. In der Regel wird die Dunkelheit mit diversen Lichtquellen vom Künstler ausgeleuchtet und Lichtspuren mit diversen Lichtwerkzeugen ins Bild gemalt. Dabei kommen verschiedene Techniken zum Einsatz, wie Kamerarotation oder andere Bewegungen der Kamera während der Belichtung. Die kreativen Möglichkeiten sind nahezu unbegrenzt. Bei Einsatz von ND-Filtern kann diese Technik auch bei Tageslicht angewendet werden. Alle Bilder wurden während einer einzigen Belichtung aufgenommen. Abgesehen vom Entrauschen, Schärfen, Beschneiden und eventuellem Anpassen des Weißabgleichs werden die Bilder nicht am Computer bearbeitet.

Such a beautiful painting is not possible for every person, it takes a lot of hard work and the choice of colors and all the other things are what I like so much about this painting.
