Light Painting In The Sarakiniko Mine

Sarakiniko Beach is located on the north shore of the Greek island of Milos. It consists mostly of grey-white volcanic rock. The north wind has given the beach its alien shape, so the area is often compared to a lunar landscape. Bentonite and perlite were mined there in the past.
For this purpose, a labyrinth of tunnels several hundred meters long was driven into this rock. Of course, these studs caught my attention.

Am Nordufer der griechischen Insel Milos ist der Strand Sarakiniko zu finden. Er besteht größtenteils aus grauweißem Vulkangestein. Der Nordwind hat dem Strand seine außerirdische Form verliehen, so dass das Gebiet oft mit einer Mondlandschaft verglichen wird. Dort wurde in der Vergangenheit Bentonit und Perlit abgebaut.
Dafür wurden in dieses Gestein ein, einige hundert Meter langes, Stollen-System getrieben. Natürlich lenkten diese Stollen meine Aufmerksamkeit auf sich.

Above you can see one of the four entrances to the mine. Three of the entrances are connected to each other by transverse and longitudinal tunnels.

Above you can see one of the main tunnels. Daylight enters the tunnel through the entrances. The tunnel system extends over several hundred meters. The tunnels were driven square (3 - 4 m) into the mountain.
Oben seht ihr einen der Hauptgänge. Das Tageslicht dringt durch die Eingänge in den Stollen. Das Stollen-System umfasst mehrere hundert Meter. Die Stollen sind quadratisch (3 - 4m) in den Berg getrieben worden.

Lightpainting

An idea for light painting in the mine came to me immediately. I wanted to drive the light down the tunnel like a drill. On the way down I dipped the tunnel in a deep blue with the help of an RGB CRITTER from Ants on a Melon. See picture above. As a drill I used an acrylic rod with color filter and adapter from Lightpainting Paradise on a flashlight “ @ryuslightworks ”. I made smooth circular motions with it as I walked back toward the camera.

The image below shows the final result of the light painting session in the mine. It was the second try. I still had a lot planned that night because Sarakiniko is very inspiring. Two more light paintings were created at different spots on the beach.

Eine Idee zum Lightpainting in der Mine kam mir sofort. Ich wollte das Licht wie einen Bohrer in die Tiefe des Stollens treiben. Den Stollen tauchte ich auf den Weg in die Tiefe mit Hilfe einer RGB CRITTER von Ants on a Melon in ein tiefes blau. Bild oben. Als Bohrer benutzte ich einen Acrylstab mit Farbfilter und Adapter von Lightpainting Paradise an einer Taschenlampe “ @ryuslightworks ” -Edition. Damit führte ich gleichmäßig kreisende Bewegungen aus, als ich zurück in Richtung Kamera ging.

Das Bild unten zeigt das finale Ergebnis der Lightpainting-Session in der Mine. Es war der zweite Versuch. In dieser Nacht hatte ich noch viel vor, denn Sarakiniko ist sehr inspirierend. Es entstanden noch zwei weitere Lightpaintings an verschiedenen Spots des Strandes.

What a location to shoot in the dark! I'd be tempted to take all the toys on the plane although some of my lightpainting gear would attract curious attention!

Danke Sven! 😊 Zwei hatte ich hier schon "rausgehauen": Marsmission und Supermoon. Ein Blog kommt noch. Jedes mal wenn ich darüber berichte, möchte ich meine Koffer packen und dort hin. Wir müssen da mal was machen. Vielleicht ein LP-Road-Trip durch Europa?
