Two weeks ago, I reported on the starry sky and star photography in Bueno Brandão, Minas Gerais (Brazil). You can find the link to the article below. Today, as promised, there is the second part of the trip to Brazil's backcountry. However, today it's about infrared photography.

Heute gibt es, wie versprochen den Zweiten Teil vom Ausflug auf das Hinterland Brasiliens. Allerdings geht es heute um die Infrarot-Fotografie.

The cover picture shows the path to the neighbor. The family runs a small dairy. The milk comes from their own dairy cows, which have to be milked twice a day. We bought fresh milk, yogurt and cheese there.

Das Titelbild zeigt den Weg zum Nachbarn. Die Familie betreibt eine kleine Molkerei. Die Milch stammt von den eigenen Milchkühen, die zwei Mal am Tag gemolken werden müssen. Wir versorgten uns dort mit frischer Milch, Joghurt und Käse.

This time I was concerned with the variations in infrared photography in post-processing with Darktable. All images were taken with the same filter configuration. I converted the two images, above and below, to black and white photos in the software.

Diesmal ging es mir bei der Infrarotfotografie um die Variationen bei der Nachbearbeitung mit Darktable. Alle Bilder wurden mit der gleichen Filterkonfiguration aufgenommen. Die beiden Bilder, oben und unten, wandelte ich in der Software zu Schwarz-Weiß-Fotos um.

A large part of my friend Rodrigo's property is used by a neighbor who grazes his breeding cattle there. Accordingly, there are a lot of pasture fences in the area.
To get onto the property, you have to pass through 4 gates. These are necessary to keep the herds of cattle separate.
If a gate is left open, chaos ensues. The foreign cattle must then be driven back onto your own land on the huge terrain.

Einen großen Teil des Grundstückes von meinem Freund Rodrigo wird von einem Nachbarn genutzt, der dort seine Zuchtrinder weiden läßt. Entsprechend stehen hier in der Gegend sehr viele Weidezäune. Um auf das Grundstück zu gelangen, muss man 4 Tore passieren. Diese sind notwendig, um die Rinderherden getrennt zu halten. Bleibt ein Tor offen stehen, erhält man ein Chaos. Die fremden Rinder müssen dann auf dem riesigen Gelände wieder auf den eigenen Grund getrieben werden.

Intensive cattle farming characterizes large areas of Brazil. Accordingly, a lot of forest was cleared in the past. Today, strict requirements must be met before a tree can be felled. The trend in many places is towards reforestation. However, most of the time, commercial forests are planted that can be “harvested” after just 15 years.
I myself am thinking about planting a small mixed forest here. Every hectare helps to make the world a better place. Everyone should make the world a better place before they leave it. At least that's my attitude to life.

Die intensive Rinderzucht prägt weite Landstriche Brasiliens. Entsprechend wurde in der Vergangenheit viel Wald gerodet. Heute müssen strenge Vorgaben erfüllt werden, um einen Baum fällen zu dürfen. Der Trend geht vielerorts wieder zur Aufforstung. Allerdings werden meist Nutzwälder angepflanzt, die bereits nach 15 Jahren "geerntet" werden können. Ich selbst denke darüber nach, hier einen kleinen Mischwald anzupflanzen. Jeder ha hilft ein wenig, die Welt zu verbessern. Jeder sollte die Welt ein Stück verbessern, bevor er diese verläßt. Das ist zumindest meine Lebenseinstellung.

Life here in the country is very simple. People help each other when there are problems. You meet your neighbors when you arrive or leave. There's always time for a chat when you meet up. You can find everything you need in the small town. DIY store, supermarket, pharmacies, cafés, restaurants and much more. I have never heard a bad word or had a problem with anyone here. The people here are open and friendly.

Das Leben hier auf dem Land ist sehr einfach. Man hilft sich, wenn es Probleme gibt. Man trifft sich mit den Nachbarn, wenn man hier Eintrift oder Abfährt. Es ist immer Zeit für einen Plausch, wenn man sich trifft. In der kleinen Stadt findet man alles, was man braucht. Baumarkt, Supermarkt, Apotheken, Cafes, Restaurants, u.vm. Ich habe hier nie ein böses Wort gehört oder ein Problem mit jemanden gehabt. Die Menschen hier sind offen und freundlich.

When I let my gaze wander over the landscape here, I come to rest. There really is nothing to disturb me. I feel very much at home here. I think I will travel here very often. Time seems to have stood still here for 50 or 100 years. For me, it is a haven of peace.

Wenn ich hier meinen Blick über die Landschaft schweifen lasse, komme ich zur Ruhe. Es gibt wirklich nichts, was stört. Ich fühle mich hier sehr wohl. Ich denke, dass ich noch sehr oft hierher reisen werde. Die Zeit scheint hier seit 50 oder 100 Jahren stehen geblieben zu sein. Es stellt für mich den Pol der Ruhe dar.

Ja, jetzt klappt es schon viel besser. Es gibt für mich aber noch viel in Darktable zu entdecken.

Ganz viele Sachen wirst Du niemals brauchen, aber wenn man sich das einmal vernünftig eingerichtet hat, ist das sehr übersichtlich.

Not everyone knows how to take pictures. This is also a skill and not everyone can take good pictures. You have learned for a long time and now you take beautiful pictures.
