Under the Power Lines

Hello dear Black and White community,

It was recently the @qurator PhotoQuest, and I really love this challenge because it pushes me to improve and learn new things in photography. Since I found it, I haven’t stopped participating.

Yesterday, I also attended a photography workshop, and a phrase stayed with me: “Even in adversity, good things can happen you just have to adapt along the way.” That phrase fit perfectly with what happened to me. To reach the location for these photos, I had to walk for an hour uphill. My camera sensor was dirty, and I had no idea. I’ve already bought the cleaning kit after all, my gear is three years old, and I’ve changed lenses so many times.

On the way, I met a Chilean cyclist a new friend and guided him through a perfect trail for his ride. Then I saw it: the power line tower, forming a natural photographic frame. I started shooting. The perspectives, the lines, the light everything connected beautifully.

When I got home, after another hour walking, I downloaded the photos on my Mac… and surprise! Damn dust spots on my images. After processing in black and white, they looked even worse. But then I realized something those imperfections were part of the landscape: rusted metal, dry dust, the roughness of the mountain trails.

I decided to accept it. I cleaned one photo in Photoshop for the PhotoQuest, and left the others as they were for my #monomad series. I learned something new that day and I’m happy with the result. Good vibes and see you next time, my friends.

Bajo las Líneas de Poder

Hola querida comunidad en Blanco y Negro,

Hace poco fue el @qurator PhotoQuest, me encanta ese reto porque te pone pruebas que te hacen mejorar y aprender nuevas cosas con la fotografía. Desde que lo encontré no he parado de participar.

Ayer también fui a un taller de foto y me quedé con una frase: “Ante la adversidad también pueden venir cosas buenas, hay que adaptarse sobre la marcha.” Esa frase encajó perfectamente con lo que me pasó. Para llegar al lugar de las fotos caminé una hora cuesta arriba, y mi sensor estaba sucio sin que lo notara. Ya compré el kit de limpieza, después de tres años de uso y tantos cambios de lentes.

En el camino conocí a un ciclista chileno, un nuevo amigo, y lo guié por una ruta perfecta para él. Luego vi la torre de luz eléctrica, que formaba un marco fotográfico natural. Empecé a disparar: las perspectivas, las líneas, la luz… todo encajó perfectamente.

Al llegar a casa, luego de otra hora de caminata, puse la memoria en mi Mac y, sorpresa, los malditos puntos en mis fotos. Al revelarlas en blanco y negro, se notaban aún más. Pero después entendí que esas imperfecciones eran parte del paisaje: fierros oxidados, polvo, y la rudeza de la montaña.

Decidí aceptarlo. Limpié una foto en Photoshop para el PhotoQuest y dejé las demás tal cual para mi serie de #monomad. Aprendí algo nuevo ese día y quedé feliz con el resultado. Buenas vibras y hasta la próxima, amigos.
