Reflections / Reflejos

Street Documentary — Lima

Hello dear Black and White community,

I’ve been reading about Vivian Maier and learning a bit more about photography. These days, I started taking photos of my own reflections wherever I could — just to see what I could find.

It’s hard to find something within myself because my moods change so much; going from happy to sad happens in seconds. It’s a mental chaos, and it’s exhausting.

But thinking about someone who spent her life taking photos without ever developing her rolls, and then after her death became famous and left behind a unique photographic style — that inspires me deeply.

Here’s a quote from her that I found and wanted to share:

“We have to make room for others. It’s a wheel; you get on, reach the end, and someone else has the same chance to take your place, over and over, always the same. Nothing new under the sun.”

We all occupy a place in this world — this is mine, this is my now, and these are my reflections. They show nothing because maybe… I am nothing.

Reflejos / Reflections

Documental Callejero — Lima

Hola querida comunidad de Blanco y Negro,

Estuve leyendo sobre Vivian Maier y aprendiendo un poco más de fotografía. En estos días empecé a tomar mis reflejos en donde podía, para ver qué encontraba.

Es difícil encontrar algo en mí, porque mis estados de ánimo son tan cambiantes que pasar de la felicidad a la tristeza es cuestión de segundos. Es un caos mental y agotador.

Pero pensar en alguien que pasó su vida tomando fotos sin revelar sus carretes y que, luego de fallecer, encontró la fama e impuso un estilo fotográfico, me inspira profundamente.

Dejo una frase que encontré de ella, cito:

“Tenemos que dejar sitio a los demás. Esto es una rueda, te subes y llegas al final, alguien más tiene tu misma oportunidad y ocupa tu lugar, hasta el final, una vez más, siempre igual. Nada nuevo bajo el sol.”

Todos ocupamos un lugar en este mundo, y este es mi lugar y mi ahora. Estos son mis reflejos. No muestran nada, porque no soy nada.
