“A 7-kilometer climb to touch the sky and understand the agricultural genius of the Incas.”
English
Hello PhotoFeed community! Continuing my journey through Cusco, Peru, I spent a day in the town of Pisac. I couldn't miss the archaeological site, which required a solid 7-kilometer uphill hike to reach the citadel.
What is Pisac?
Located about 33 km from Cusco's historic center (roughly an hour by car), Pisac is one of the most important jewels of the Sacred Valley. It served a triple purpose: military (to guard the entrance to the valley), religious, and agricultural.
What struck me the most were the Andenes (Agricultural Terraces). These are giant "steps" carved into the mountainside. They weren't just for decoration; the Incas built them to create different microclimates, prevent soil erosion, and expand their farming land on steep slopes. Seeing them from above is like looking at a giant green staircase designed by gods. It has become one of my favorite places in the world a truly magical experience.
