Hello, dear Black and White community!

I live in La Molina, a district a bit far from the city center maybe that’s why no one ever visits me, haha. But it’s a peaceful place, surrounded by rocky mountains. That works for me because I love trail running.

These photos had been sitting in my Instagram for a while, and I always felt they had potential for the MonoMad Challenge. I did everything I could to rescue one of them, used all my editing magic I hope it’s up to the challenge.

The guy in the picture is Luis Alberto, a.k.a. Beto a real metalhead and a great guitarist. One day he told me he wanted some photos, so I said, Let’s go to the Eco Park, I can get you some cool shots. He said yes, and off we went.

But the hike was no joke. I wanted to take him to the very top. What I usually do in 50 minutes running turned into a 2-hour climb with me carrying the guitar, haha. Beto was literally hating me, but I kept motivating him. When we finally made it, the view was crazy: on one side, the full city view; on the other, these wooden houses clinging to the hills in extreme conditions.

And then came the clouds the fog rolled in over the mountain, the sun lit everything up, and for a moment, it felt like we were floating above the world.

I had to shoot fast. These are the only two photos I managed to recover from that day. Sadly, I lost a lot of my archive after an accident with my MacBook. After 25 years photographing, I’ve lost a lot of material but I keep going.

I hope these photos and this little story with my friendspeak to you.

Hola querida comunidad en Blanco y Negro

Vivo en el distrito de La Molina, un lugar algo alejado del centro de la ciudad. Creo que por eso nadie me visita, jajaja. Pero es un sitio tranquilo, muy agradable para vivir, rodeado de montañas rocosas lo cual me viene perfecto porque me gusta correr por los cerros.

Tenía estas fotos guardadas hace tiempo en mi Instagram, y siempre sentí que tenían potencial para el MonoMad Challenge. Hice todo lo posible para rescatar una de ellas, usé toda la magia que sé de edición, y espero que esté a la altura del challenge.

Él es Luis Alberto, alias Beto, un músico de aquellos, le encanta el metal y es muy buen guitarrista. Un día me dijo que quería unas fotos y yo le dije: Vamos al Parque Ecológico, puedo sacarte unas buenas. Aceptó, y nos fuimos a la caminata.

Yo quería llevarlo hasta la cima. Lo que normalmente hago en 50 minutos corriendo, se convirtió en una caminata de 2 horas y yo cargando la guitarra, jajaja. Beto me estaba odiando literal, pero yo lo animaba para que siga.

Cuando llegamos, la vista fue brutal: por un lado, toda la ciudad; por el otro, esas casas de madera que la gente levanta en los cerros. Una realidad dura. Pero lo más loco fue el bosque de nubes: el sol se filtraba por la neblina, y parecía que estuviéramos flotando.

Tuve que hacer las fotos rapidito. Estas dos fueron las únicas que logré rescatar de ese día. Lamentablemente perdí mucho material por un accidente con mi MacBook. Después de 25 años fotografiando, ya he perdido muchas fotos pero bueno, sigo adelante.

Ojalá estas fotos y esta pequeña historia con mi buen amigo les llegue.
