Hands on the Bus

Hello dear Black and White community,

Hands are a basic instrument on Peru’s buses.
Here it feels like Formula 1: buses fly, and Peruvians have trained fingers and grip. We could easily compete in a world championship of tug-of-war.

But this is also a short country; some can’t even reach the handrail and have to grab whatever they can. Others hold their bags tightly because of the ever-present pickpockets. And many are absorbed in the virtual world scrolling reels or chatting with their boyfriend… or their lover.

For some time now, I’ve been fascinated with hands on buses. As I mentioned before, I’m building a photo essay focused entirely on this subject. These are some of the hands I captured over different trips, and my goal is to have a complete project within a year.

Manos en el bus

Hola querida comunidad en Blanco y Negro,

Las manos son un instrumento básico en los buses del Perú.
Acá parece que estás en la Fórmula 1: los buses vuelan, y los peruanos tenemos los dedos y el agarre muy entrenados. Podríamos competir en un mundial de jalar la cuerda.

Pero también este es un país muy chaparro; algunos ni siquiera alcanzan el pasamanos y tienen que agarrarse de lo que puedan. Otros aprietan con fuerza el bolso porque siempre están los “amigos de lo ajeno”. Y muchos más se sumergen en el mundo virtual, mirando reels o chateando con el novio… o con la amante.

Desde hace un tiempo tengo una fijación con las manos en los buses. Como les comenté, estoy armando un ensayo fotográfico dedicado solo a este tema. Estas son algunas manos que retraté en varios viajes, y mi meta es lograr un proyecto completo en un año.
