Killing Time, Catching Light / Haciendo Hora, Haciendo Fotos [Eng–Esp]

Hello dear Black and White community,

Always out and about with Dani! I’m currently organizing everything with my friend Hans, who came from Las Vegas. I’ll be helping him as a model well, technically, my leg will be the model for a tattoo convention here in Lima.

As always, Dani leaves an hour early to arrive on time, and I never go out without my camera. This time, we went for a walk along the Malecón in Miraflores. As we say in Peru: “haciendo hora” (killing time, Peruvian slang!).

This community has also given me the honor of meeting amazing photographers. One of them is @MuhammadHalim, whose backlight photos really caught my attention. I asked him how he achieved that beautiful effect, and he kindly shared some tips with me. I’m still learning, but I gave it a try, and I think something good came out of it. Thanks again, my friend I’ll keep practicing!

Luckily, the sun came out in Lima, which is rare this time of year. We’re in the middle of winter here usually grey, foggy, and melancholic. But yesterday, July 29th, the sun made a brief appearance. Also, it’s our national holiday: Fiestas Patrias! 🇵🇪 Though today is a working day… time to get back to it.

Here’s a small photo series inspired by my friend’s work. I hope I managed to capture even a little of what I saw. He’s an incredible photographer check out his profile, you won’t regret it, and you’ll learn a lot.

Hola querida comunidad en Blanco y Negro

Siempre de paseo con Dani. Estoy terminando de cuadrar con mi amigo Hans, que ha venido de Las Vegas, y lo estaré apoyando como modelo… bueno, en realidad, ¡mi pierna será la modelo! Todo esto será parte de una convención de tatuajes aquí en Lima.

Como siempre, Dani sale con una hora de anticipación para llegar puntual, y yo salgo con mi cámara. Nos fuimos a dar una vuelta por el malecón de Miraflores, como decimos en Perú, “haciendo hora”.

Gracias a esta comunidad he tenido el honor de conocer excelentes fotógrafos. Uno de ellos es @MuhammadHalim, cuyas fotos a contraluz siempre me han sorprendido. Le pregunté cómo lograba ese efecto que tanto me llamaba la atención, y súper buena onda, me dio algunos tips. Sé que aún estoy aprendiendo, pero igual algo salió. Muchas gracias, amigo, seguiré practicando.

Tuve la suerte de que salió el sol en Lima, lo cual es casi un milagro en estas fechas. Estamos en pleno invierno, con esa clásica neblina gris y un aire melancólico. Pero justo ayer, 29 de julio plena celebración de nuestras Fiestas Patrias el sol apareció por un rato. Eso sí, hoy ya es día laboral otra vez.

Les dejo esta pequeña serie fotográfica inspirada en el trabajo de mi amigo. Espero haber podido captar aunque sea un poco de lo que vi. Él es un fotógrafo increíble, no se arrepentirán si visitan su perfil. Aprenderán mucho.
