Flamenco Under the Studio Lights – Part 1/ Flamenco Bajo las Luces de Estudio – Parte 1 [Eng-Esp]

As I mentioned a few posts ago, I recently began a new personal challenge: studio photography. I’m learning how to handle lighting setups, model direction, and everything that helps me grow in what I’m most passionate about photography.

It was definitely a challenge. But Dani, my partner and now my official model, made everything easier. The moment I was told I had to choose a theme for my final exam, I instantly thought of her and of using something she’s also passionate about: dance, especially flamenco.

She brought this session to life. Even though I had to do everything on my own lighting setup, photographic script, shooting with studio flashes without help from my teacher .I gave myself completely to the process. I was nervous, of course. It was my very first studio shoot. But in the end, I spent two hours shooting.

For this session, I mainly used the Rembrandt lighting scheme to create a more dramatic effect, since flamenco demands that emotional depth. I also experimented a bit with split and butterfly lighting, trying to apply everything I’ve learned so far.

We shot many photos using three different outfits. What I’m sharing with you today is just the first part of a three-post series that I’ll be publishing over time.

I just feel grateful to have the opportunity to keep learning and above all, to have someone I love so much who supports my dreams: Dani.

Hola, querida comunidad Blanco y Negro!

Como les comenté hace algunos posts atrás, empecé un nuevo reto personal: la fotografía de estudio. Estoy aprendiendo sobre el manejo de luces, esquemas de iluminación, dirección de modelo… todo con las ganas de crecer en lo que más me apasiona: la fotografía.

Fue todo un reto, desde luego. Pero Dani, mi pareja y ahora también mi modelo oficial, me lo hizo más fácil. Desde que supe que tenía que desarrollar un tema para mi examen, pensé en ella al instante, y en cómo aprovechar lo que también le apasiona: la danza, especialmente el flamenco.

Ella le dio vida a esta sesión. Y aunque tuve que hacer todo por mi cuenta (el esquema de iluminación, el guion fotográfico, disparar con flash de estudio sin ayuda de la profesora), me entregué al proceso. Los nervios estaban ahí, claro, era mi primera sesión fotográfica en estudio. Pero terminé quedándome dos horas disparando.

Para esta sesión usé principalmente el esquema Rembrandt, para darle más dramatismo, ya que el flamenco es un baile que lo exige. También jugué un poco con la iluminación split y butterfly, tratando de aplicar todo lo que he aprendido en este tiempo.

Tomamos muchas fotos, usando tres vestuarios diferentes. Y esta publicación es la primera parte de una serie de tres posts que iré compartiendo con ustedes poco a poco.

Solo me queda sentirme agradecido por tener la oportunidad de seguir aprendiendo, y sobre todo, por tener a una persona a mi lado a quien amo tanto y que me apoya en mi sueño: Dani.
