Hello dear Black and White community,

I’ve been off the radar these past few days. I couldn’t publish anything.

I was living something intense: I took part in the Second International Tattoo Convention in Lima, and this time, I wasn’t there as a photographer but as a canvas.

My friend Hans, from Black Blood Tattoo (Las Vegas), came to Peru to tattoo and needed someone.
I had never gone through something like this before. I had always paid for my tattoos, chosen the design, the timing, the meaning.
But this time, I gave myself fully to the process. I knew Hans had great talent, and being part of a convention like this gave me the push.

It was both a physical and mental challenge.
Three full days at the convention, nearly twelve hours per day under the needle.
Luckily, I handle pain well but still, it was intense.
There were just a few moments to stretch before getting back to the chair. My body was exhausted, but the excitement kept me going.

I brought my camera too. I thought I’d be able to take more photos, but it was tough.
Between the pain, the fatigue, and the environment, I could only capture a few moments.
Still, I managed to take a photo of Hans tattooing my leg, and another one of the tattoo artists working next to me.
My tattoo neighbor, Javier, was also being inked he was getting amazing pre-Columbian designs by Saqras, another incredible artist.

It was over 36 hours under the needle.
The first session lasted nearly 14 hours. Then came the others. I lost track of time, but the effort was real.
And not everyone understands what it means to be a canvas. It’s giving up your body, trusting someone, enduring.
And in the end becoming part of the artwork.

I hope the few photos I took can share a bit of what this experience meant.
A deeply personal, physical, and emotional journey, filled with ink, sweat and shared art.

¡Hola, querida comunidad Blanco y Negro!

He estado desaparecido estos días. No he podido publicar.

Estuve viviendo algo muy intenso: fui parte de la segunda convención internacional de tatuajes en Lima, y esta vez no fui como fotógrafo… sino como lienzo.

Mi amigo Hans, de Black Blood Tattoo (Las Vegas), vino a tatuar y necesitaba alguien.
Nunca había pasado por esa experiencia. Siempre había pagado por mis tatuajes, elegido el diseño, el momento.
Pero esta vez me entregué al proceso. Sabía que Hans tenía mucho talento, y asistir a una convención así también me animó.

Fue un reto físico y mental.
Tres días de convención, casi doce horas por día tatuándome.
Por suerte tengo buen aguante al dolor, pero igual fue durísimo.
Solo teníamos momentos breves para estirar un poco… y luego volver a la máquina. Mi cuerpo estaba tenso, pero la emoción me sostenía.

Además, llevé mi cámara. Pensé que podría fotografiar más, pero fue complicado.
Entre el cansancio, el dolor y todo el movimiento, solo pude capturar algunos momentos.
Aun así, logré hacer una foto de Hans tatuándome la pierna y otra de los tatuadores que estaban a mi costado.
Mi compañero de sesión, Javier, también estaba siendo tatuado. A él lo trabajaba Saqras, con diseños precolombinos realmente impresionantes.

Fueron más de 36 horas bajo la aguja.
La primera sesión duró casi catorce horas. Las siguientes se hicieron eternas. Perdí la cuenta exacta, pero fueron intensas.
Y no sé si todos entienden lo que implica ser lienzo. Es ceder el cuerpo, confiar, aguantar.
Y al final también ser parte de la obra.

Ojalá las pocas fotos que pude hacer transmitan un poco de lo que fue esta experiencia.
Un viaje íntimo, físico y emocional, lleno de tinta, sudor y arte compartido.
