Cusco: Beyond the Stones / Cusco: Más allá de las piedras

Hello, my dear friends from the Black and White community.

Reviewing my photos from Cusco, I am reminded of how incredible this city is for street photography; your eyes can never rest because something is happening everywhere you look. On my way to the famous San Pedro Market, just five blocks from my hostel, I encountered endless situations I couldn't ignore. In my upcoming posts, you will see the reality of street vending. It’s hard to understand how a city so rich from tourism can also harbor such poverty two sides of the same coin. Despite the corruption and hardship, you see resilient workers representing the country: women, the elderly, and a mixture of people striving to get by.

Another constant you will notice in my photos are the dogs. They are everywhere, moving in packs through the streets as there are no shelters. This series is meant to show you a different face of Cusco. It’s not all Inca ruins or beautiful stone backdrops; it is also about the drive and the struggle to stay afloat in a city where worlds collide.

Hola mis queridos amigos de la comunidad Blanco y Negro.

Revisando mis fotos de Cusco y de la fotografía callejera que hice, me doy cuenta de que es una ciudad increíble; no puedes descansar el ojo en ningún momento porque por donde pasas está sucediendo algo. Camino al mercado de San Pedro, a solo cinco cuadras de mi hostel, me topé con un sinfín de situaciones que no pude dejar pasar. En mis siguientes posts verán mucho del comercio ambulatorio. Nunca entenderé cómo una ciudad tan rica por el turismo tiene también tanta pobreza; son dos caras de una misma moneda marcada por la maldita corrupción.

A pesar de todo, vemos un comercio ambulatorio pujante: mujeres y ancianos que representan el empuje del país. Otra cosa que verán son perros; hay jaurías por todos lados caminando por la ciudad. Les dejo esta serie de fotografías mostrándoles una cara diferente de Cusco. No todo son ruinas incas o hermosos fondos de piedra; también hay mucho esfuerzo y ganas de salir a flote en una ciudad donde chocan los mundos.
