Land and Hands / Tierra y manos [Eng–Esp

Hello, dear Black and White community!
Always wandering around the Sacred Valley of Urubamba, I stayed in an Airbnb in Yucay, about 55 kilometers from downtown Cusco. A peaceful place, surrounded by ponds and right by the Urubamba River.
I would go out with my camera and see the mamichas (local women) walking from one place to another, and the wayquis (which means “brothers” in Quechua) working the land. Only the road separated us. I never found out exactly what they were harvesting, but what caught my eye was the hard work, the strong hands, and the act of chacchar coca leaves to gain the power of the Inca — a tradition passed down since the days of the Inca Empire.
I love sharing the richness of this beautiful culture. These photographs are a glimpse of what I experienced during that moment in my adventure in Yucay.
Thanks for being part of this ongoing #MonoMadChallenge adventure!

Aside from the pictures which are beautiful, I am curious to know a little more about some cultures and their traditions and I find that your photos certainly capture that hard work!
Thank you so much for your kind words!
I’m really glad the photos sparked your curiosity that means a lot to me. I always try to show not just the landscape, but also the strength and daily life of the people. There’s so much culture, tradition, and resilience here, and it’s an honor to share even a small part of it.

I really like the blurring and depth of field in the first photograph; it's wonderful.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. I’m glad you noticed the depth the blur was intentional to guide the eye toward the main subject, the mamicha (a respectful way to refer to Andean women). I’m really happy you liked the photo.
