Jan Matejko's house
When I visited the National Museum in Krakow, with the same ticket I could enter completely free of charge within three months to other branches of this important Polish museum. I took advantage of this opportunity to enter the house of JAN MATEJKO, certainly a man who literally painted the Polish national identity. In fact, I had already heard of him because his enormous historical paintings are very famous and have told an important part of the history of Poland, this through his eyes.
So I was very curious to enter this house, I thought it was something small but in reality it is very large and develops on many floors, and it is located in the heart of Krakow in Florianska Street 41, one of the most important streets in Krakow.
I was able to admire the living room which is not a simple reconstruction that can happen to see in museums, but it is actually the original furniture, family memories, the letters that surrounded this important artist until his death. I was able to admire his secret study, his collection of costumes, weapons, fabrics, jewels, as well as understanding his story and how he lived his life.
In about an hour I was able to visit his entire house, and I found it very interesting, there were also some paintings on display that I had already seen in some museum, but above all it can also be visited for free on Tuesdays and I think also on Sundays, but if you have this cumulative ticket like I had you can visit it whenever you want.
I must say that this museum does not seem like a cold museum, but you can see that it is really a home that has been lived in precisely because fortunately many of the objects and many buildings have been preserved, in fact it was written that there are about 6,000 pieces on display but above all I was struck by this man who in many cases donated these paintings and therefore did not do it only for the money as unfortunately often happens in art, especially in our days.
I recommend you visit it if you have time because it is really worth it, it is a little gem. In my opinion it is a little off the main tourist routes. In fact there were not many people and there were not many tourists. See you in my next post!
