My Daily Blog 2026#207

Około południa pojechaliśmy do Brukseli, by celebrować urodziny córki. Zaczęliśmy od rodzinnego lunchu w pizzerii niedaleko jej mieszkania. Porządnie posileni, byliśmy gotowi na kolejne atrakcje, jakie przyniósł nam ten dzień.
[ENG] Despite my best intentions and setting the alarm for 6:45 AM, I didn't manage to hit my running goal of 100 kilometers for July. Oh well, I'm hoping August will be a lot easier. Aside from that, it was an absolutely fantastic day. Around noon, we drove to Brussels to celebrate our daughter's birthday. We kicked things off with a family lunch at a pizzeria near her place; properly fueled, we were ready for whatever other attractions the day had in store for us.

[ENG] For a few weeks now, there has been an exhibition running called "Icons of the 90s." I must admit, the title and the ads were slightly misleading—I thought I was going to see iconic supercars from that era. At the entrance, it turned out my "Golden Pass" from last year had expired, so I decided to buy a new one without hesitation. In my opinion, it makes total financial sense to spend €55 on an annual, unlimited pass for two people rather than dropping €17 on a single-entry ticket for one person. Given that we visit Brussels at least once a month and the exhibitions change every 2 to 3 months, the pass really pays for itself. Getting back to the 90s exhibition itself: the selection of "iconic" cars might not have been mind-blowing, considering you can still spot most of those vehicles (or their equivalents) parked on residential streets in many Polish towns. However, what really created that sentimental vibe were the nostalgic extras: background music, old MTV music videos, movie posters, and mock-ups of 90s teenage bedrooms. Sure, in post-communist Poland of the 90s, you’d be hard-pressed to find a teen with an iMac in their room, but there was certainly no shortage of posters of our idols.

Ten intensywny dzień zakończyliśmy w belgijskiej restauracji w pięknych wnętrzach Pasażu św. Huberta (Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert). To właśnie tam zwieńczyliśmy obchody urodzin córki wspólną kolacją. Wjechał deser z symboliczną świeczką, z głośników popłynęło głośne „Happy Birthday”, a piosenkę podchwyciła i zaśpiewała nam cała sala – łącznie z wycieczką japońskich turystów! :)
[ENG] We wrapped up this busy day with dinner at a Belgian restaurant in the beautiful Royal Saint-Hubert Galleries. That's where we officially crowned our daughter's birthday celebrations. A dessert arrived with a symbolic candle, "Happy Birthday" played over the speakers, and the entire restaurant joined in to sing—including a group of Japanese tourists! :)
