Dzięki temu, że znów staliśmy się niezależni, to mogliśmy wybrać się poza Walencję. Nasz wybór padł na Alicante, oddalone o około 150 kilometrów od Walencji nadmorski kurort, który często pojawia się w ofertach biur podróży. Dostępne są również oferty tanich lotów z wielu miejsc w Europie.

[ENG] Having regained our independence, we were able to travel outside Valencia. Our choice was Alicante, a seaside resort about 150 kilometres from Valencia, which is often on the travel agent's list. There are also cheap flights from many European destinations.

Zdecydowanie jest to miejsce dla miłośników słonecznych i morskich kąpieli, i takich na pewno nie brakowało na Playa del Postiguet. Nas nie interesowało plażowanie, więc tylko przeszliśmy się deptakiem wzdłuż plaży w kierunku windy, która to miała nas wynieść do nieba Castillo de Santa Bárbara.

[ENG] It is definitely a place for sun and sea lovers, and there was certainly no shortage of that at Playa del Postiguet. We weren't interested in sunbathing, so we simply strolled along the beach promenade towards the lift that would take us up to the heaven Castillo de Santa Bárbara.

XIII wieczny zamek położony w centrum Alicante, na górze Benacantil o wysokości 167 metrów npm. W czasach swojej świetności miał strategiczne znaczenie ponieważ był doskonałym punktem z którego można było wypatrzyć zbliżających się wrogów od strony zatoki i morza oraz od strony lądu. Wizerunek góry z plaży przypomina twarz, dlatego nazywana jest „twarzą Maura” i jest ikoną miasta Alicante.

[ENG] A 13th century castle in the centre of Alicante, on the 167 metre high Benacantil mountain. In its heyday it was of strategic importance, as it was an excellent vantage point from which to see enemies approaching from the bay, the sea and the land. The image of the mountain from the beach resembles a face, which is why it is called the 'Face of the Moor' and is an icon of the city of Alicante.

Dla takich turystów jak my zamek był jedyną atrakcją godna uwagi, wąskie uliczki starego miasta głównie zastawione były przez stoliki okolicznych restauracji i co chwilę ktoś nagabywał do skorzystania z oferty jakiejś restauracji. Chcieliśmy zobaczyć wnętrze katedry św. Mikołaja z Bari, ale wszystkie drzwi były zamknięte na głucho.

[ENG] For tourists like us, the castle was the only attraction of note; the narrow streets of the old town were mainly crowded with the tables of the local restaurants, and every now and then someone would nag us to take up the offer of some restaurant. We wanted to see the inside of the Cathedral of St Nicholas of Bari, but all the doors were locked.

Trochę byliśmy rozczarowani Alicante, bo oprócz kawałka zatłoczonej piaszczystej plaży i zamku na skale miasto nie ma nic więcej do zaoferowania.

[ENG] We were a little disappointed with Alicante, as apart from a bit of crowded sandy beach and a castle on a rock, the city has nothing else to offer.
