Macao - Another little trip / Kleiner Ausflug
| When I was living in Ningbo & then in Huashi, I spent a lot of money on trips to see my girlfriend in Canton. On one of those trips together with a friend of hers we visited Macao again. Unlike on my first trip to Macao (day 1 & day 2), we spent only a few hours there, & because we were not alone, I didn't have so much opportunity to make photos. | Als ich in Ningbo & danach in Huashi wohnte, gab ich viel Geld für Reisen zu meiner Freundin in Kanton aus. Auf einem dieser Trips besuchten wir zusammen mit einer ihrer Freundinnen nochmal Macao. Anders als beim ersten Mal (Tag 1 & Tag 2), verbrachten wir dort nur einige Stunden, & weil wir nicht alleine waren, konnte ich auch nicht soviele Fotos machen. |

| Therefore, in this post are pictures from the whole trip, starting in Shanghai, where I took a plane to Canton. I don't really like Shanghai in general, because it's not really a Chinese city. But, unlike the monstrosity Beijing, at least back in 2008 in Shanghai you didn't have to walk very far to see at least something of common China. | Daher enthält dieser Beitrag Bilder von der ganzen Reise, angefangen mit Shanghai, von wo ich nach Kanton flog. Mag Shanghai generell eher nicht, weil es keine wirklich chinesische Stadt ist. Aber, anders als in der Monstrosität Peking, mußte man zumindest 2008 in Shanghai nicht allzuweit laufen, um doch etwas vom normalen China zu sehen. |

| I was staying in a hotel near the city centre of Shanghai. As you can see, not only the Bund shows some European influence. At least I see some Historicism in Gründerzeit-style. | Ich blieb in einem Hotel nahe am Stadtzentrum Shanghais. Wie man sieht, gibt es nicht nur am Bund europäische Einflüsse. Sieht mir jedenfalls sehr nach Gründerzeit aus. |

| An old (?) steam locomotive. For what I can see, that's a type JF1. But the no. 1116 is not listed by Wikipedia as preserved. So, either this was just a copy or they have wrecked it after 2008. | Eine alte (?) Dampflok. Sofern ich das richtig sehe, ist das eine vom Typ JF1. Nur ist die Nr. 1116 in der Wikipedia nicht als erhalten beschrieben. Also war es entweder nur eine Kopie oder man hat sie nach 2008 verschrottet. |

| On the bus to the airport (I think it was Hongqiao) I came across this strange castle. Must have been the headquarters of a Chinese company taken over by Rhodia Group. | Auf der Fahrt zum Flughafen (denke, es war Hongqiao) fiel mir dieses seltsame Schloß auf. War wohl die Firmenzentrale eines von der Rhodia Group übernommenen chin. Unternehmens. |

| At the time they were building the Canton Tower. I wondered why they used such structure. Turns out, it's just a largely useless symbol. With fitting Chinese colloquial names, from WP: ""Twisted Firewood" (Chinese: 扭纹柴...) and "Yangdianfeng" (Chinese: 羊巅峰; lit. 'Peak of the Ram City'; homophone of "epilepsy" in colloquial Chinese)". | Zu der Zeit baute man gerade am Kantonturm. Wunderte mich über diese seltsame Konstruktion. Scheint ein weitgehend nutzloses Symbol zu sein. Die chinesischen Spitznamen für das Ding sind teilweise recht passend, wie z.B. 'verdrehtes Feuerholz' (扭纹柴) oder ein Homophon von Epilepsie. |

| Pearl River in the smog. Canton was experiencing pretty foggy days at the time. Although in general air pollution there was not as bad as in the north or east, it could get quite nasty. | Perlfluß im Smog. Kanton lag damals unter ziemlichem Smog. Normalerweise war Luftverschmutzung dort nicht so schlimm wie im Norden oder Osten, konnte aber doch recht unangenehm werden. |

| Preparing a Macao specialty. In my old post I called it 'dried crispy meat'. At least in this case it's not so much dried as barbecued. (For reference, the lower photo is from the old post & shows the meat for sale.) | Zubereitung einer Spezialität. Im früheren Beitrag nannte ich das 'getrocknetes Fleisch'. In diesem Fall ist es wohl eher gegrillt als getrocknet. (Als Referenz dient das untere Foto von damals, das das Fleisch zum Verkauf zeigt.) |

| Looks like colonial architecture, but probably isn't. In Macao we took the free bus to a casino in a theme park called Fisherman's Wharf, & this is just part of the theme park. | Sieht aus wie Kolonialarchitektur, ist es aber wohl nicht. In Macao nahmen wir den Gratisbus zu einem Casino in einem Themenpark namens 'Fisherman's Wharf', & dies scheint nur Teil des Parks zu sein. |

| As you can see above, although Macao has no industry to speak of, it still suffered from mainland smog. | Wie man sieht, leidet auch Macao unter Festlandssmog, obwohl es dort kaum Industrie gibt. |

| Not sure about this one. It's in the folder for the next day, titled 'Guangzhou', but it looks very much like a place in Dongguan I know. But it's a one-off, so I just put it here, because it looks nice. & that should be it for that very short trip to Macao, now just a few more pics: | Bin mir nicht sicher bei dem Foto. Ist im Ordner für den nächsten Tag mit Titel 'Guangzhou', aber es sieht sehr nach einem Platz in Dongguan aus, den ich kenne. Da es nur ein Einzelstück ist, stelle ich es mal hier rein. & das soll es auch schon gewesen sein über diesen Kurztrip nach Macao. Jetzt nur noch ein paar Bilder: |
