Huashi - Eternal seeking & poetic rest / Chinglish, die Poesie & der ganze Rest

Today is the middle of November 2008, again wandering around Huashi & musing about the poetry of life. Just kidding, there is no poetry in life. But there is poetry in Chinglish. Dada poetry, to be exact.	Heute ist Mitte November 2008, es wird wieder mal durch Huashi gelatscht & über die Poesie des Lebens philosophiert. Kleiner Scherz. Es gibt keine Poesie im Leben, aber im Chinglish. Dada-Poesie, um genau zu sein.

Life can be so nice, even behind bars.	Leben kann so schön sein, auch hinter Gittern.

Isn't it poetic? If you wonder where the title comes from, this is the answer. In Chinese classrooms you usually find such motivational or propagandistic slogans. In this case, the Chinglish is quite strong. The original Chinese says something like: 'Feel with your heart, experience with your heart, perform with your heart!'	Pure Poesie. Wer sich fragte, woher der Titel stammt, hat hier die Antwort. In chinesischen Klassenzimmern findet man meist solche Motivations- oder Propagandaslogans. Hier ist das Chinglish besonders stark. Im Original steht da: 'Fühle mit dem Herzen, erfahre mit dem Herzen, vollbringe mit dem Herzen!'

Ah, the poetry! They didn't even bother with Chinese here. My pupils didn't care, anyway. They were just amused by that silly teacher taking photos of nonsensical slogans & wanted to be part of it.	*Solch Poesie!' In diesem Falle sogar ohne Chinesisch. Meine Schüler kümmerte es eh nicht. Sie fanden nur den seltsamen Lehrer so lustig, der Fotos von blödsinnigen Mottos machte & wollten im Bild sein.

A while ago I mentioned the menace of pupils playing tabletennis in front of my bedroom window at 5.30 in the morning. A bit later there was another menace, which made sure that I was awake for class. The morning exercise with blaring music for all pupils. Video was also shot from my bedroom window, so the quality is poor. But let's get wandering:	Vor einer Weile erwähnte ich das Grauen von Schülern, die um 5.30 Uhr vor meinem Fenster Tischtennis spielten. Etwas später kam das Grauen zurück, um sicherzustellen, daß ich zum Schulanfang wach war. & zwar in Form des Frühsports mit lärmender Musik. Das Video nahm ich auch vom Fenster aus auf, daher ist die Qualität eher mies. Aber jetzt wird gelatscht:

It could be so nice. I really don't understand it. You could have it so wonderful among all the fields & water, but you throw your garbage everywhere & then even set it on fire, so you can enjoy the lovely smell of burning plastic.	Es könnte so schön sein. Verstehe es wirklich nicht. Man könnte in wundervoller Umgebung leben, mit all dem Wasser & den Feldern, aber man schmeißt überall Müll hin & setzt ihn sogar in Brand. So daß man den herrlichen Duft brennenden Plastiks genießen kann.

It could be so nice. If you ignore the rubbish.	Es könnte so schön sein. Wenn man den Müll ignoriert.

The above shows one of the ubiquitous mechanical mules. But this one is special. I think, it's the only one I ever saw as a sewer cleaner. It was driving, so the photo is not quite sharp.	Einer der weitverbreiteten, mechanischen Mulis. Aber dieser ist anders. Denke, das war der einzige, den ich jemals sah, der als Kanalreiniger diente. Er fuhr gerade, deshalb ist das Foto etwas unscharf.

I even had to walk a little bit faster to overtake it & take another picture. These vehicles have an incredible speed.	Mußte sogar etwas schneller latschen, um ihn zu überholen & noch ein Bild zu machen. Diese Dinger sind unglaublich schnell.

Bike traps. As usual in China, road works are not secured. So, if you use these roads in the dark, you have to be rather careful.	Fahrradfallen. Wie üblich in China sind Baustellen nicht abgesichert. Wer die dortigen Straßen im Dunkeln nutzt, muß also sehr aufpassen.

Another one-off. A road sweeper of a very peculiar construcion. That exhaust pipe is nice. At least, this one seemed to be working, unlike the big one I had seen in Huashi before.	Noch ein Einzelstück. Eine Kehrmaschine von besonderer Konstruktion. Der Auspuff hat was. Wenigstens schien diese zu funktionieren, anders als die große, die ich zuvor in Huashi gesehen hatte.

It could be so nice. If there were no petrol (or oil?) in the water.	Es könnte so schön sein. Ohne Benzin (oder Öl?) im Wasser.

Barge train. As I said, lots of water in the area. Of course, you utilise it.	Frachtkahnzug. Wie erwähnt, es gibt dort viel Wasser. Was man natürlich ausnutzt.

Rubbish dump with dog. Seriously, I have no idea why they are doing this. Such a rubbish dump beside your house can't smell nice.	Müllhalde mit Hund. Weiß echt nicht, warum die das machen. Solch ein Haufen Müll neben dem Haus muß doch stinken.

Even if there is a polluting factory right beside, every bit of free land is used to grow vegetables.	Selbst mit einer Dreckschleuder von Fabrik daneben wird jeder Quadratmeter zum Gemüseanbau genutzt.

Chicken parade. Markets in China are famously hygienic. Although, to be fair, chickens are often slaughtered only after you bought them. So, it's up to you to refrigerate the meat in time.	Hühnerparade. Chinesische Märkte sind halt sehr hygienisch. Allerdings werden Hühner meist erst nach Verkauf geschlachtet. Liegt also am Käufer, das Fleisch schnell zu kühlen.

Pure poetry. Another day, another classroom, another slogan. & that*s where the title actually originates. & don't ask me about the Mandarin. I have no idea what that means, either.	Reinste Poesie. Neuer Tag, neues Klassenzimmer, neues Motto. & darauf beziehe ich mich im Titel. Das chinesische Original sagt mir übrigens auch nichts.

Ship on grass. Well, not really, only looks like it. There is still some water under the green.	Schiff auf Gras. Nicht wirklich, sieht nur so aus. Unter dem Grün ist immer noch Wasser.

A rather common rural house. But look closely, something is different.	Ein recht normales Dorfhaus. Aber wenn man näher hinsieht, fällt etwas auf.

Among the cacti on the roof is what looks like a Christian cross. Quite uncommon, although in the area lived a few Christians, for what I know.	Zwischen den Kakteen auf dem Dach steht anscheinend ein christliches Kreuz. Recht ungewöhnlich, auch wenn in der Gegend einige Christen leben, soweit ich weiß.

Life could be so nice. If you like living in a dumpster. In the German title I referred to a book by Douglas Adams, because - well - it just fits the Chinglish nonsense & this photo of dumpster guy. & that's enough poetry for today, now just a few more pics:	Das Leben könnte so schön sein. Wenn man gern im Müll lebt. Im Titel bezog ich mich auf ein Buch von Douglas Adams, weil es einfach zu dem unsinnigen Chinglish & diesem Müllbewohner paßt.
