On the 13th of June 2014

Nesactium was an ancient city situated on the top of one of the hills in the area around the small village of Valtura. The place is an archeological park now and I have only about seven or eight kilometers from my hometown to there. Since isn't far and I like its atmosphere, I visit Nesactium quite often.

On the 13th of June 2014, I witnessed a strange temporal anomaly that brought back the ancient inhabitants of Nesactium. The Romans ...

... and the people called Histri that preceded the Romans in this area.

Nesactium was the capital of the Histri until the Roman conquest in 177 BC.

After that, it became a provincial Roman town with a certain strategic military importance.

The tourist season was only at the beginning, and the tourists are always gravitating toward the coast anyway, so ...

... so the visitors on the 13th of June were mostly locals from the nearby villages and the city of Pula.

The actors were telling the history of kings, ancient battles, and the final siege in a pretty pompous way. It was appropriate for the occasion, I guess, but I just can't digest that style.

To my taste, everything looked much better than it sounded.

The reenactment of the battle was more interesting. But the light was relatively low. It was getting late. So I wasn't able to get a good clear shot and freeze the action.

Some people in the audience were accompanied by their pets.

Some children were riding the horses.

The atmosphere was nice & relaxed and the mosquitoes from the surrounding woods had plenty of fresh blood for dinner.

We also ate something. At discount (or rather symbolic) prices.

I visited Nesactium two times on that day.

(Enlargeable)

Yep. Two times. Can you believe that?

The first time around noon and then in the evening again.

The reenacting event was in the evening, of course.

(Enlargeable)

I took only one photograph in the midday sun. You can see it here.

In the early afternoon, I spent some time in Pula. In the house of a friend that lives on the outskirts of the city.

Her apartment has plenty of interesting vintage stuff.

While she was working on something on her laptop, I took the opportunity to take a bunch of selfies in one of her beautiful mirrors.

This was much better than my usual bathroom mirror.

I used quite a few objects found in her living room ...

... including this cool superhero mask.

(Enlargeable)

The light in the room was pretty low, my compact camera was pretty bad, so many shots ended up being grainy and blurred.

At one point, I found a disco ball.

Yep. A small but glamorous disco ball.

I don't know what was on my head when this shot was taken. A piece of clothing, I guess.

You can see me with some books here.

I used Photoshop in this shot. To make things trippy.

I have only one book here. That's enough, I think.
No need to exaggerate if you wanna achieve the right dose of elegance. If you like reading books, that's OK, I won't judge you, but if you ask me, a book is a hat primarily.

A selfie very similar to the one shown in this photograph already appeared in the post. You may think that the two are exactly the same, but they are not. I could have left one of them out of the post, but what I can tell you? I'm a completist, I guess.

I have something else in this shot, for a change. It was something from the kitchen, I guess.

Here you can see the same thing in monochrome.

I tried to think outside the box for this shot, but my head somehow ended up completely disappearing in some kind of box.

(Enlargeable)

Yes, that's me again in this colorful tryptich.

I used my friend's mirror to its fullest that day. Like there's no tomorrow.

Here you can see some old colorful stuff on the living room wall.

I spent a couple of hours on the beach in the morning. This photograph was taken there. In the seaside area called Marlera. Not far from the village of Liznjan. Five or six kilometers from Medulinj, the small town in which I live.

(Enlargeable)

Later, at home, I worked on some drawings & paintings, and I took these three shots showing my fingers and some details from those artworks.

In the evening ...

(Enlargeable)

... I was in Nesactium.

And that's it.

The post started there ...

... and soon ...

... will end in the same place.

As always here on HIVE ...

... the photographs are my work.

Your camera result is very great. Beautiful shots. Although the technology was not much advance like today but you have a great shots. At the end such a funny clips like you have a book, cup or lid on your head. Your style is different to clicking pictures.

Is it a stage play? Looks fun to watch taking you back to the first century.

Power closes the eyes of the ruler, that's what I read and I understood when I read many kingdom stories.
And most of that, there are also many who truly prosper their nation.

I've seen Roman "gladiator style" acting at specific Castles in England (on special event days). Usually a lot of fun and great to watch all the action! ~ Awesome shots, brings back some nice memories for me !LOL

A man looks very handsome and strong in such clothes as we see that all these people are looking the same. Your selfies are just awesome.
