IT WAS RAINING AND I WAS DRIVING AROUND

It happened a month ago. I mean, more or less a month ago. It was raining after a prolonged period of dry, hot weather. I mean, it was raining everywhere in the region except the southern cape of the Istra peninsula where I live. The nearest rain was about twenty kilometers north of me ...

... so I sat in my car and drove toward the thick dark clouds above the northern horizon.

It was still sunny when this photograph was taken. I wasn't far from the village of Marchana, meaning I was about fifteen kilometers from my hometown.

The sunlight was slightly subdued a couple of kilometers further and the road was wet. The rain passed this way.

On the outskirts of Vodnjan, the small town about twenty kilometers from where I live ...

... I finally caught the rain. You can see some houses on the edge of Vodnjan in this shot.

This is a scene from the village of Chabrunichi.

I took quite a few photographs there.

My camera was too big and clumsy to photograph while driving through the rain ...

... so I was using the smartphone of a friend who was in the car with me.

On some occasions, the smartphone camera kept stubbornly focusing on the windshield, leaving the scenery on the other side of the glass blurred. That made me angry at first, but then, later at home, I saw that some of those semi-accidental shots weren't too bad.

In this shot, I'm about to cross the railroad that passes through the village.

It was a very refreshing drive ...

... because here, a little more than twenty kilometers northward, the rain has made everything cooler ...

... while in Medulin - my hometown, the day was still hot & sunny.
