GREETINGS FROM THE TRAIN STATION

avatar

I walked up & down the railroad today. For about half an hour. I mean, I was walking by the rails not precisely on them.

It happened a couple of hours ago. I drove to the city because I needed to buy some things that can't be found in the stores in Medulin, my hometown. The city in question is Pula. In this post, you'll see a bit of the scenery around its train station because, when the quick shopping was done, I decided to take a quick walk in that area on the edge of the old town.

Here you can see the small café near the station. Only the empty chairs and tables were enjoying the sunny day out on the porch turned into a small terrace. The morning was cold and windy. All the people were inside. The small building shown in this photograph shares the colors and architectural style with the nearby train station which I haven't photographed today.

(Enlargeable)

This old steam locomotive is displayed on the lawn between the station and the small café shown in the previous photograph. The scene looked better in black & white, so you can see it here that way.

Further down the railroad, I came across this contemporary yellow machine.

This was once a storage building, part of the railway organization. Nowadays, it's a nightclub. The Cargo Club. Some kind of disco. Turbo-folk makes the 99,999999999999 percent of the repertoire. The remaining percent consists of the cheesiest pop music that you can imagine. Atrocious stuff. So bad that becomes surreal, which means that it has a certain charm. I had a good time a couple of times there. Drunk and stoned, of course. I don't think I would have survived the experience sober.

Here you can see some of the garbage produced by the Cargo Club beloved by the youngsters of the new millennium. Pula was a very alternative city once. A punk-rock kind of city. The weekend soundtrack is maybe the most noticeable change in the city that hasn't changed very much overall.

AND THAT'S IT. IT WAS A SHORT WALK SO THE POST CAN'T BE VERY LONG. HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE TOUR. AS ALWAYS IN THESE POSTS HERE ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK.

THE END

The train route is one of my favorite. Because I used to walk along the train tracks a lot in the afternoons and I liked it very much. You have shared some great photography moments of the train station.

There are a few places in Europe where those steam trains still operate in tourist interest, I know one in Serbia (Mokra Gora - Šargan 8) and here in Romania in the Maramures area (Mocanita from Viseul de Sus), in Suceava County (Mocanita Hutulca) and we have one in Hunedoara County.

If you ever get to Romania do not forget that here we have a few places where these steam trains still operate, I can recommend ,,Mocănița, the steam train from Vișeul de Sus in the Maramureș area, this area is in northern Romania somewhere very close to the border with Ukraine.

Not a bad walk and some neat shots of places I might not normally see! Great perspective reminds me of our train station and I should give that place a photo walk.

Pula Station Bar seems like a pretty cool place. An the Cargo Club place has a great name.
Reading your post brought back memories of some of my train journeys in my youth & student times. It's been years now since I was on any train. 🚆
Thanks for sharing your story, @borjan.

I remember when my kids were young they loved to stand on the "railway bridge" and wave to the train driver as he approached. We would stand and wait for at least 3 trains before they agreed to go home. !WINE !LUV !PGM

I love this little café, and the old warehouse too. I love all sorts of old railway artefacts in general, there's something unusual about them!

I have remembered childhood memories when in our village there are still railroad tracks, now everything has disappeared without a trace. @borjan
