I Finally Finished It...

There are some who may have noticed my inactivity on here (and no -- it has nothing to do with that huge spike with the Hive token. Did you guys see that it reached $5?! 😱). The truth is that I had become absolutely possessed by an idea -- an idea that came to fruition, and has finally reached completion.

I am slowly but surely realizing what a truly unique gift grief can be. For months, I have been silently mourning alongside a family that I have never met, for the loss of their 4-year-old daughter to brain cancer. I was absolutely engrossed in this pain and didn't know how to properly release it.

Art is my gateway, either through writing, music, coloring... The idea of releasing grief through artwork popped into my head. I began searching for the perfect image to embody Luna. I remembered the symbolism of Rapunzel, how despite enduring chemotherapy, Luna still wished to keep her long hair.

I found this one. It had its imperfections (there was a bosom line, and ain't no 4-year-old got titties 😩), but my mind couldn't let go of it. Mermaids are revered for their long hair; perhaps Luna would enjoy being a mermaid! All the while working on this, I could hear Luna's sweet voice in the back of my mind, singing, "My kitty! Come look at the bundle bees!~ Look at the bundle bees!" I imagine she would have a creative name for the pufferfish as well...

(I feel that it is important to note that I did not draw this picture; only colored. It is actually from a pop manga coloring book from artist Camilla d'Errico)

Her favorite colors are blue and purple, so I was sure to incorporate as much of the hues as possible. Luna also adores butterflies -- these stickers that I noticed in the Dollar Store are actually where the entire idea began! 😱 Of course the stickers came in blue and purple, so I stuck a bunch onto her drawing.

It took a number of days to finish -- innumerable hours spent standing in the kitchen, coloring (we have toddlers)... but she is finally done... I plan on sending it to Luna's mother (@ coralfully). She has always said that she hopes Luna will continue to inspire others in the afterlife; she definitely has. Her story is one that has lingered with me for months, to the point where I had to pour my heart out into art.

I truly hope Coral loves it... I pray that Luna does too, for that matter! 😄💜

What a lovely painting you did! Yeah it’s really sad that the poor girl died, and so young! I hope that giving the painting to the mother brings joy to her life.
