Caught in A Thunderstorm ⛈️ (ENG-ESP)

Yesterday was another family walk, with an unexpected twist: we were caught in the middle of a summer thunderstorm! ⛈️

Our walk began with a quick trip to the park (as usual 😂). It has been warm enough that the girls have been able to enjoy the splash pads. While we were there, we also came across some amazing sidewalk chalk art!

Nuestro paseo comenzó con una rápida visita al parque (como siempre 😂). Ha hecho suficiente calor como para que las niñas hayan podido disfrutar de los juegos acuáticos. ¡Mientras estábamos allí, también nos encontramos con un increíble dibujo de tiza en la acera!

I had no idea who had left these before us, but they were very well-done! The artist had made two pieces of dinosaur art: a T-rex, and a Stegosaurus, I believe.

We came across some more beautiful flora while on our walk. This batch here is known as Dianthus 'Bath's Pink.' They are tiny, cute, frilly little flowers, but I enjoyed their appearance nonetheless.

Durante nuestro paseo, nos topamos con más flores preciosas. Este grupo se conoce como Dianthus 'Bath's Pink'. Son florecillas diminutas, bonitas y con volantes, pero aun así disfruté viéndolas.

While in the woods, looking for bugs, we decided to take a quick photoshoot of our girls 🥹💗 The forest foliage has been coming in so beautifully: the green grass and leaves, the creeping ivy, the lovely flowers...

Mientras estábamos en el bosque, buscando insectos, decidimos tomar una sesión de fotos rápida de nuestras chicas 🥹💗 El follaje del bosque ha estado creciendo de una manera tan hermosa: la hierba y las hojas verdes, la hiedra trepadora, las hermosas flores...

As you can see, our youngest daughter was being so silly during these pictures 😂 Lately she has been quite the temperamental mood, so shortly after these were taken, she was being cranky again 😅

Como podéis ver, nuestra hija menor estaba haciendo tonterías durante estas fotos 😂 Últimamente ha estado bastante temperamental, así que poco después de tomarlas, volvió a ponerse de mal humor 😅

After the photos were taken, we headed back out onto the streets. We were meant to see a reenactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek. It was a battle of the British against the Americans, where the victor would be able to claim Canada. Unfortunately, the Americans lost 😭🫡

Después de tomar las fotos, volvimos a salir a la calle. Íbamos a ver una recreación de la Batalla de Stoney Creek. Fue una batalla entre los británicos y los estadounidenses, donde el vencedor podría reclamar Canadá. Desafortunadamente, los estadounidenses perdieron 😭🫡

Along the way, more flowers were discovered! This is known as an Oriental Poppy. I was surprised to learn that these plants can survive temperatures of -40 degrees Celcius! 🥶

¡En el camino, descubrimos más flores! Esta se conoce como amapola oriental. ¡Me sorprendió saber que estas plantas pueden sobrevivir a temperaturas de -40 grados Celsius! 🥶

Another interesting plant that I had never seen before; this is Westerplatte Clematis Vine. It is identifiable by its deep purple flowers, and towering heights of up to 10 feet tall!

Otra planta interesante que nunca antes había visto: la enredadera de clemátide de Westerplatte. Se la identifica por sus flores de color púrpura intenso y su imponente altura, ¡que puede alcanzar hasta 3 metros!

I spotted some graffiti that I really liked as well. It reads, "Tell me lies."

También vi un grafiti que me gustó mucho. Decía: "Dime mentiras".

Here we were at the reenactment, finally! 🥳 Unfortunately we did not take many pictures, but my husband managed to snap these photos of the Canadian soldiers. These brave men volunteered to fight in the battle against the Americans.

¡Por fin llegamos a la recreación histórica! 🥳 Lamentablemente no tomamos muchas fotos, pero mi esposo logró capturar estas imágenes de los soldados canadienses. Estos valientes hombres se ofrecieron como voluntarios para luchar en la batalla contra los estadounidenses.

Our girls at the reenactment; they had a great time 😄 There were lots of people, but thankfully we were able to get a decent spot where we could see everything. The actors go out into the field with their uniforms and muskets, then fake gunfire takes place as they reenact the battle.

Nuestras hijas en la recreación histórica; ¡se lo pasaron genial! 😄 Había mucha gente, pero por suerte conseguimos un buen sitio desde donde podíamos verlo todo. Los actores salen al campo con sus uniformes y mosquetes, y luego se simulan disparos mientras recrean la batalla.

I caught this picture of our oldest daughter while she was hunting in the grass for snails. I thought it was absolutely gorgeous -- she is sitting in the rays of the sun, with a starburst right above her head 🙏

Tomé esta foto de nuestra hija mayor mientras buscaba caracoles en la hierba. Me pareció absolutamente preciosa: está sentada bajo los rayos del sol, con un destello de luz justo encima de su cabeza 🙏

Right when the reenactment had ended, a thunderstorm hit us! 😱⛈️ It was a pretty good downpour, but aside from that, we survived. The good thing was it only lasted 10 minutes or so, and it made for a beautiful sky...

Justo cuando terminó la recreación, ¡nos sorprendió una tormenta eléctrica! 😱⛈️ Fue un aguacero bastante fuerte, pero a pesar de eso, sobrevivimos. Lo bueno es que solo duró unos 10 minutos y el cielo quedó precioso...

I couldn't get a good photo of it, but off in the distance, we could see the Cross of the Devil's Punchbowl. It's a huge gorge, with the Cross sitting atop of it. I thought the light provided a nice aesthetic...

No pude sacarle una buena foto, pero a lo lejos se veía la Cruz del Cuenco del Diablo. Es un desfiladero enorme, con la Cruz en la cima. Me pareció que la luz le daba un toque estético muy bonito...

To end the day, we came across a carnival! This was another unexpected surprise 😁 Unfortunately we could not attend (we are poor), but it was wonderful to see the colorful lights and thrilling rides.
