MOROCCO - the new Grand Theater in Rabat

Hello dear Hive Community, I hope this post finds you well! I have been showing some traditional corners of my city Rabat in previous posts. Today I would like to give you a glimpse at the modern face of Rabat by taking a quick look at the new opera house on the banks of the Bouregreg River.

The new Grand Theater of Rabat, due to be fully completed later this year, is still closed to the public, but I was able to take some pics yesterday from outside the perimeter of the complex. The mesmerizing curving design architecture, blended with elements of Arabic calligraphy, is a real eye-catcher as you pass it by train. It is part of a 110ha mixed-use district with a national archive, museum and shopping malls. The building includes a 1800 seat indoor theater and a 7000 seat open-air amphitheater.

The unique architectural style of the Grand Theater allows an almost completely new perspective from different angles. I didn’t expect the structure to change so dramatically as I walked around it. Here is a small selection of pics to show you what I mean:
