PhotoFeed Contest - Cityscape - Rochester Christmas Market.

Hi everyone!

Keeping on trend with the festive period, this past weekend I went to visit a well known and popular Christmas market in Rochester, Kent. This city has long been on my list of places to fly for a picturesque setting on a river bank, the castle and cathedral, ties to naval history and all the old buildings lining the high street from multiple centuries as the city grew bigger.

I arrived quite late in the afternoon and the roads were very busy so I didn't have too much time to explore. I have visited Strood before to check out an old Russian submarine but this time it was all about the market.

What's impressive to me is how the entire thing is set within the walls of the castle grounds which makes for an interesting layout and silhouette at night!

A few daytime shots to start off. I headed directly to the castle first as I planned to create a day to night transition video.

Siguiendo con el espíritu navideño, el fin de semana pasado visité un conocido y popular mercado de Navidad en Rochester, Kent. Esta ciudad llevaba tiempo en mi lista de lugares que quería visitar por su pintoresco entorno a orillas del río, su castillo y catedral, su conexión con la historia naval y todos los edificios antiguos que bordean la calle principal, testigos del crecimiento de la ciudad a lo largo de los siglos.

Llegué bastante tarde por la tarde y las carreteras estaban muy concurridas, así que no tuve mucho tiempo para explorar. Ya había visitado Strood anteriormente para ver un antiguo submarino ruso, pero esta vez mi objetivo principal era el mercado.

Lo que me impresionó fue que todo el mercado está ubicado dentro de las murallas del castillo, lo que crea una distribución y una silueta nocturna realmente interesantes.

Aquí tenéis algunas fotos de día para empezar. Me dirigí directamente al castillo, ya que mi plan era crear un vídeo con una transición del día a la noche.

By the time the golden sunlight burned through the clouds, I had walked down the high street to the south of the castle to a small park to look back at it so I grabbed some shots of the cathedral tower lit up too. For some reason the wide angle pano shots that the drone spat out are exposed much higher than I would like and not as good quality wise as I expected so I took some AEB's of the subjects to make sure I had a variety and to preemptively avoid disappointment.

Para cuando los rayos dorados del sol atravesaron las nubes, ya había caminado por la calle principal, al sur del castillo, hasta un pequeño parque para contemplarlo desde allí, así que aproveché para tomar algunas fotos de la torre de la catedral iluminada. Por alguna razón, las panorámicas de gran angular que capturó el dron tienen una exposición mucho mayor de lo que me gustaría y no tienen la calidad que esperaba, así que tomé varias fotos con horquillado de exposición (AEB) de los sujetos para asegurarme de tener variedad y evitar decepciones.

I had so much fun flying around finding nice angles that my fingers were absolutely freezing by the end of the night. It was seven degrees and I had trouble keeping movement smooth whilst moving around the sky. Maybe I'll share the video here soon.

Me divertí muchísimo volando y buscando buenos ángulos, tanto que al final de la noche tenía los dedos completamente congelados. Hacía siete grados y me costaba mantener los movimientos fluidos mientras me desplazaba por el cielo. Quizás comparta el vídeo aquí pronto.
