PhotoFeed Contest - Cityscape - Night On The Strand.

Hey everyone!

I trust everyone is well and rested after the festive break!

Back with a penultimate post featuring festive London and continuing with finding nooks and crannies around restricted zones- this time to the Strand and the ice skating at Somerset House!

This pocket of free airspace is between two zones. One starts from the other side of Waterloo Bridge in the foreground below, headed towards The Eye. The other is across the river diagonally towards the OXO Tower. From here all the classic landmarks are visible.

A new subject for me is the National Theatre. The brutalist architecture is unapologetically bold and in your face. It looks like a nuclear bunker!

Just next to the bridge at the top left was my takeoff location. Just a road along the river so great views across the river to keep line of sight.

At the end of the Strand I found a small pedestrianised area. At the time it was quiet as theatre performance was ongoing and my location was slightly out of the way.

One of my favourite shots from that night is this one - the rickshaws patiently waiting for people to leave the theatre.

Turning to the south is Somerset House. This venue is used for all kinds of events and outdoor gigs. In winter months an ice skating rink is installed in the centre.

The next few shots were a trial run for me to check out what could be seen from here. I stunmbled upon the ice rink that was set up ready for visitors.

Just outside is a photogenic church.

Trippy vertorama for the road! Directly below is the takeoff location and the church seen above is just off to the left side.

I returned later in the month and on a weekend to make sure enough skaters were booked in and on the ice for a few nice photos.

I knew the December Super, Hunters Moon would also be visible that night and the weather played nice that day!

Forgive the barrage of photos, I tried to get a combination of lighting states including with or without skaters on the ice!

I had a lot of fun flying here but I was also playing with the settings a little, no single shoot seems to ever be the same as the previous one!

Take care everyone!
