A Huge Highland Adventure [Part Two]

With Liverpool (as nice as it was) in the rear view, I had my sights firmly set on the north.
It was slightly deflating to keep seeing those words on the road signs all the way up the country until just about going over the border! Then various cities were mentioned instead.

I arrived at my Airbnb late at night and settled in.

Day one began with;
"Macbeths Castle"
Shakespeare had this be the location of Macbeths castle in the famous tragedy. In actual fact, it is the location of a modest Iron Age fort from the first Millenium.
I was very lucky with the weather here as low clouds were being blown towards me as I was flying.

This is looking back down the initial hill up from the carpark which I was NOT prepared for. However, the terrain levelled off a little after!

Perth City
Disused railway yard in the city centre.
Very photogenic in some areas as it appears no trees grow around where the old lines and service platforms once were creating striking edges and corners in the forest. The city centre itself is very neglected but the parks are nice.

Kinnoull Hill
A large park with a cliff top view of Perth. Fantastic place to walk with mixed terrains down into the town of Kinnoull. Its main feature is a 19th century tower with a view of the south over the river Tay.

Various Pictish Stones
My host recommended I check out stones which date back to around the early Middle Ages and are a few of the only visible remains of the Picts, a small civilisation that inhabited the north. The stones are slightly taller and a lot thicker than modern day gravestones and often were combined to form giant crosses that roughly stand about 2 metres tall..
These stones are hand carved and it is thought that they were used to signify land boundaries and burial sites.

This first example was in the Perth Art Gallery...

Second example was inside a derelict church but behind a panel of glass.

Take it easy everyone and stay tuned for day three!
