As a tropical country with very fertile soil, agriculture in Indonesia has long been a main sector to support the community's economy. The fertility of the soil on the islands that are the territory of the Indonesian state is not without reason. The country's geographical location on the equator and the Pacific Ring of Fire makes a very significant contribution. Volcanism produced from active volcanic eruptions supplies the soil with the necessary minerals, thus making the soil in Indonesia ideal for agriculture.

Rice has been one of the most important agricultural commodities in Indonesia for generations. It is estimated that rice began to be cultivated by pre-historic societies around 1500 BC. Over time, rice cultivation techniques have continued to be refined, allowing communities to increase crop yields and expand their agricultural areas. In the past, people in Indonesia still planted rice in the traditional way. Along with the arrival of other nations that explored, especially Europeans, agricultural techniques in Indonesia experienced many improvements. New science is also increasing along with the introduction of new plants that were previously unknown to the local community.

The times continue to move forward, modern agricultural technology is beginning to be introduced. You may have heard of the Green Revolution, an era in which agricultural technology was applied to increase food production. In today's digital era, the concept of precision agriculture and agrotechnology is starting to become a trend with efforts to combine information technology with conventional agricultural practices. Agriculture in Indonesia must be boosted not only by paying attention to the economic sector, but also an integral part of traditional people's lives. Awareness of this further emphasizes the importance of maintaining and preserving agricultural traditions in the midst of ongoing modernization.
