Introduction

Awassi sheep are sheep that are not commonly kept by our people here. Usually, people here prefer to keep goats as livestock. The presence of the Awassi sheep that passed by was enough to arouse my interest to take a picture and write it in this post.

This type of sheep comes from Southwest Asia, especially the desert region in Syria. Middle Eastern countries such as Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia are also known to have a lot of this type of sheep farming.

From several sources that I got to complete the information written in this post, the existence of this type of sheep in Indonesia is starting to be popular for farming because of its very high price potential. The meat and milk produced are very large and make the price vary depending on the type and age.

The original Awassi sheep can reach a price of 30-35 million Rupiah. While those that have been crossbred with local sheep only have a price range of 4-5 million. It is not surprising that this type of sheep is a favorite to be kept as livestock.

From other sources, Awassi Sheep have distinctive physical characteristics, namely: The color of the fur is generally white with a brown head and legs. The sheep tail is fat, which functions as a place to store fat. It has a high ability to adapt to various environmental conditions. Including types of sheep that produce meat, milk, and wool.

This type of sheep is very well adapted to living in tropical areas such as Indonesia. Although known to be nomadic in the desert areas of the Middle East, they can also be bred in tropical areas.

With a weight gain of 5-6 kg per month for females and 7-8 kg per month for males, Awassi sheep show high efficiency in feed utilization. Moreover, their milk production is abundant, with an average yield of 1.8 liters per day.
