Street With Trams
"The street with trams" sounds somehow like the title of a static nature painting, something like "Plateau with apples and grapes", only here nature is not static at all, in fact, not nature, but trams.
Old street in Iasi, a city in Romania. A street that was once, long ago, in the Jewish quarter. There are not many Jews in Iasi anymore. Part of them were exterminated during the Second World War and the other part, who survived, left Romania during the communist period and settled mostly in Israel or the USA.
Aghata Barsescu Street in Iasi
A street full of small shops. The appearance of the street is the same as in the past when the Jews owned all these shops here, they were the best merchants. What changes the landscape are the trams...
This tram took me by surprise. It came up behind me and startled me with the noise of its wheels rolling on the iron tracks.
Between two trams speeding past I still have time to see the entrances to the inner courtyards of the buildings. I love these hidden courtyards. If it weren't for these entrances we wouldn't even know there was a courtyard.
Iasi is a special city. Former capital of the province of Moldova. A city full of both history and old places full of charm. The architecture of the buildings with French influences... The City Hall had a good initiative to acquire older trams from the West that they have refurbished and modernized but left their image and shape identical to those that ran here many decades ago.
Another inner courtyard. I also see a parking lot that allows no cars on the narrow street, which would make it impossible for trams to pass
The photos below do not betray that they were not taken 70-80 years ago. Only those poles that don't allow cars to park on the sidewalk didn't make sense in the past.
Just this entrance to another inner courtyard betrays the era we are in. The Graffiti Age. They're not even the best.
This is my entry for the #monomad challenge.
For me, it's easier to choose color or black and white. When I shoot in older places, places that remind me of the past, memories, and nostalgia, I like to change the photos to monochrome, especially black and white!
Indeed, tram is a colour of a city and it identifies with the city such as Istiklal Street-Istanbul, Bica-Lisbon.
In my childhood and early youth, the tram was the most used means of transport.
muy buenas fotos.. me encantaria caminar por esos lugares! saludos!
Saludos... and good luck!
This street is happening, the road is really very beautiful and when these pictures are converted to black and white, their beauty is enhanced a lot.
