People In The Dark

I recently attended a religious procession at midnight two days ago. Easter is one of the two great Christian holidays, for those who don't know it.

Again, for those who don't know what this means, it's about an event from two thousand years ago. Every year, in spring, there is a symbolic re-enactment of those events in ancient times.

Many people participate, from children to the elderly. It starts at midnight and includes a pilgrimage, a movement of people around the place of worship.

I don't want to talk about religion and I don't want to describe this event. In all this diversity that exists in our world, there are also a lot of religions and beliefs, which in my opinion should make us ask ourselves some questions...

I, once again, have been a companion and a follower, my wife's, of course. I was, at the same time, a profiteer. I took advantage of the situation to take some photos!

I like photographing on the street, photographing people I don't know, but there is an impediment... people don't like to be photographed by strangers.

I read somewhere that some people, in the past, believed that if they were photographed their soul would be taken away with their image!

This belief is no longer the case, but people have plenty of other reasons not to be thrilled about being photographed by strangers.

I've found that if I photograph a certain person on the street, they may get upset and react but if I photograph a larger group of people, they don't react (of course, if the group isn't a criminal gang, haha).

I took full advantage of this religious procession to take some photos, some of which are in this post.

The event was in Bucharest, in the old center, at the Stavropoleos Monastery, which will celebrate its 300th anniversary early next month.

The long walk back home...

The black and white photo is chosen for aesthetic reasons, emphasizing its message.

I chose black and white to show something that has to do with the past, with something old, such as an event more than two thousand years ago.

This is my entry for the #monomad challenge.

It is almost impossible to not to take photo of face of people in crowd. In such situation, I eliminate the photos where a person's head or face is remarkable in the photo.

Why delete those photos? I think those are the best.

Interesting photographs which, being black and white, have an air of history, antiquity and experience. Beyond the event, they are photos that were captured at a precise moment. Excellent work!
