Mobile Phone

I didn't think mobile phones would be a topic I'd be covering here in the photography-loving community. Moreover, it to even be the main feature.

And yet...

It all started here. A street theatre festival that happened at the end of June in Bucharest, Romania. B-FIT in the street! It's a festival at its twelfth edition, that is, it's held every year, now being the twelfth year and I haven't seen any of these events.

I knew that it would be a very colorful festival, especially with giant puppets and dolls parading through the downtown boulevards and I thought it was a great time to take a bunch of photos. I looked forward to the first day, I charged up the camera battery to take tons of photos.

The most awaited show of the first night was by an aerial acrobatics troupe from France, TAWA. A show to the top, in every way. But the surprise was to come at the end of the performance. An unexpected and very colorful cascade of confetti and colored papers!

All the spectators were taken by surprise. The reaction of most was to quickly grab their mobile phones and take a picture. There was no other way to approach the situation.

I picked up my camera and thought I'd take much better pictures than most people out there...

In Romania, if you run out of fuel in your car's tank and you can't continue your journey, they say you've done the fool's fault, that you're stupid!

I picked up my camera and wanted to take my first picture. The camera was dead and insensitive. I immediately realized I had forgotten to put the battery in the camera! I made a fool's fault, not with the car, but with the camera.

So my infatuation was quickly punished and I also had to resort to the help of my mobile phone, which, by the way, saved me many times when I had to photograph something.

This incident made me think more tenderly about my phone, which I don't really use for conversation.

Looking later at the photos taken that evening I noticed that almost everyone featured at least one mobile phone on the noble mission of taking pictures. So I thought I'd post some of these photos.

The square has turned orange! The cannons threw up huge quantities of colored paper. After the first moments of excitement, spectators wanted to immortalize the scene. For themselves, for family, for friends, for social media!

It was incredible! It was unbelievable the mood this colorful waterfall induced. The joy of everyone, but especially the adults was out of control. The children's joy will come later (in another post).

I hope you checked and saw that every photo shows at least one mobile phone. Of course, almost every person now has a mobile phone in their pocket, but it's rarer to see everyone using it at the same time.

At the end of the show, the street was covered with millions of colored papers. We all enjoyed it very much, but there are definitely a few who didn't enjoy it at all. Those who do the cleaning. That reminds me of a joke...

A pilot, on his last flight before retirement, announces to the passengers on the plane that all his life he has wanted to do a loop, and now, on his last flight, he will do one. The passengers buckled their seatbelts and waited to see what would happen.

After doing that loop (i.e. making a circle in the air, where the plane ends up flying on its back, I say that for those who don't know the term looping) the pilot, clearly satisfied, asks the passengers if they liked it.

They all answered, all at once, that they liked it.

Then the door to the lavatory opened and the one who had been inside said: I didn't like it!

Proof that you can never please everybody!

The pictures are beautiful especially with the paper colours, you were able to capture it well even with your mobile phone

Imagine you were not with your mobile phone when you found out that you forgot your camera battery, mobile phones are really useful and easy to use

Of course. A big advantage is that they are easy to use.

I myself like to use more mobiles, the camera that is there, one forgets to pick it up, the mobile that is in the pocket is in the pocket. Seeing people enjoying themselves and forgetting their troubles is the best.

Thanks for the invitation! I will be happy to attend. I still don't know if I'll have material to post, I've kind of lost my youthful enthusiasm but as I haven't lost hope yet that I'll get to see the Sibiu theatre festival, if it happens, I'll write about it.
I have to tell you now that I read your posts from this year's festival, saw that you had a reference to me, and was delighted and I thank you, but mostly I apologize for not responding and commenting. I guess I was in a kind of depression, and I couldn't do anything at the time.

No worries. I thought might have been something but real life is always more important than anything and the community is not going anywhere so whenever you have the material and mood to share something, would be happy to read about it. I have around 1,200 pictures from this year's edition of FITS but not enough time to start the series yet. Maybe in a few weeks though, when I'll be back from my upcoming trip :)

Take care and stay healthy!
