Childhood Memories Are Haunting Me In The Glimeii Valley

One of the trips that is still recurring for me is the trip to the village where I grew up. My parents went to the country's capital, four hundred miles away, to work. They were sort of emigrants in their own country. I stayed with my grandparents and had a somewhat difficult childhood, as I perceived it then, but a wonderful one, as I see it now looking back.

I spent some years there, about nine years. That was halfway through the last century, a little over halfway through the last century....

I think nostalgically of my childhood in the country. I go back every year hoping to find the places where I used to spend my days, in nature, with friends of the same age, unchanged. Because that's all we had.

Time, energy, and lots of space to use them both!

Recently I'm back in the village of my childhood.
Now, of course, I have neither the time nor the energy of my childhood, but I have nostalgia.

One of these nostalgia is called "Glimeii Valley" and it is a plateau, that is bordered by two valleys, of course. In one valley was my grandparents' house and the small village where we lived and the other valley separated us from the neighbouring village. That plateau was our playground.

I really enjoy it when I can take a walk outside the city where I live. This trip to the north of Romania gave me this opportunity to walk through real nature, not the built ones in the parks of Bucharest.

When you are small (as an age), everything seems very big. As an adult, I understood that. The Glimeii Valley plateau is not as big as it used to be when I was playing with my friends when we were hiding and couldn't find each other...

Next, I will put some photos taken on the short walk from my grandparents' house to the Glimeii Valley plateau.

This house is next to my grandparents' house. This is where a childhood friend of mine, the same age as me, lived, and now as I write, I try to remember his name, but I can't. I only remember that my grandmother was angry with him because every time he came to our house to play he ate my food. I didn't really like eating when I was a kid. This is a house specific to this village. There aren't many more like it. They were demolished to build more modern and comfortable ones. That's what will happen with this too...

The road is overgrown with grass, hardly distinguishable, as not many people drive here anymore.

IMG_0009.jpg

Many fruit trees grow in this area and the apple tree is the most common. When I was a child, apples were what I ate most when I was in the field.

IMG_0014.jpg

I left in the evening on this walk, wanting to catch a sunset.

IMG_0013.jpg

Here is the edge of the plateau and follows the valley towards the neighboring village.

IMG_0016.jpg

This is the valley side of my village, actually my grandparents' village...

The side faces the neighboring village. Here the perspective is greater.

What I find here, time and time again, that I don't find in the big, crowded city where I live, is space. The freedom in front of my eyes, the horizon. And so much beauty on the horizon!

I went for a walk with the desire to revisit the places of my childhood and the sunset. I succeeded with both. Sometimes I get lucky!

It was more than a walk, it was a walk back in time. This whole story might not interest anyone but I hope you find something interesting in the photos. Because, after all, photos are what it's all about.

Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss.

This is one of the recommendations made by @tattoodjay for those who prefer walking and are used to sharing impressions and photos in his community, Wednesday Walk, every Wednesday, like this one today.

A really beautiful village with nice scenery, one thing I love about villages is the abundance of fruits, fresh air and silence.

It feels so good to visit a place where one has been visiting all his life as a child and now when one sees things there, childhood memories are brought back. These places are really very beautiful.

I love visiting the place where I grew up, even if it has changed since then. It reminds me of a happy time in my life.

Perspective really changed as we grow up. It's nice to be back to a place where we grow up and find not much has changed. It's really a lovely place.

Wow. The ambiance of the place is very nice. You have such a very nice childhood place. I love to live in a place like that. As you say it is a place where you can reconnect to nature, and be peaceful. Yeah, that's true. I never felt tired living in a place like that, same as you do, catching every sunset is what I do every late afternoon.

The advantage of living in the country. We can see the sun rise or set, we can see the horizon.

Reminiscing the past is always good to remember especially those things we always did. Your place is just like ours here in the Philippines I can feel the air that surrounds. What I love most was the apple tree that has plenty of fruits.

I'm glad the places are the same as in the Philippines, it's proof that our world is the same.

Childhood nostalgia is great. There are places I will never revisit as the nostalgia would probably be too much, but looks like you had great memories. Funny how our perspective changes from everything being massively vast to much smaller when we grow up.

The sunset looks like it was a good one. Tell me, did you take some of the apples home with you?

This time I didn't take apples, they weren't ripe yet. Instead, we took plums.
Childhood nostalgia is a mixture of sweet and bitter.

Plums work 😊 I understand, it's always a bit of a weird feeling.
