Oktoberfest: Beer and Surfing Break

Happy first day of October, amazing people!

How come it's October already! Isn't it just summer yesterday? We've come this far! Speaking of October, what comes to my mind is Octoberfest (spells as Oktoberfest). This is because my town commends it yearly just before the Halloween. That was preceding the pandemic.

Beers, beers and more beers (for beer drinkers)
Beach Activities
Surfing Competitions
Beach Parties
Tattoos
Food
Souvenirs
Concerts
Campings
and many others.

I sort of miss those days.

Oktoberfest (Octoberfest) - a strong beer made initially in Germany for the Oktoberfest festivity and also an autumn celebration that includes fun and drinking brew.

Elyu (L.U. or La Union) Surfing Break is a yearly surfing event here in my Barangay (Urbiztondo, San Juan, La Union - the Surfing Capital of the North). It was conceptualized and dispatched in the year 2006 fully intent on instructing and presenting surfing to the overall population through legitimate educating techniques. It is coordinated during the semestral break, during the last few days of October.

The main market of the event includes the people from Baguio, Manila, and other North Luzon urban communities. This yearly surfing event has been extremely fruitful and made my province La Union an exceptionally famous tourist destination in the Philippines.

Elyu Surfing Break in the Previous Years Prior To The Pandemic

Consistently, the Saturday night of the surfing break is the most active day in my Barangay or county (Urbiztondo). Most resorts and transient houses are fully booked. A few travelers even camp at the beach since they have no more place to stay. Cafes are also full. Vehicles are left on the two sides of the highway. The last surfing break was in 2019 and we (my daughter and I) had the option to go to it. Furthermore, no! No drinking beers for me. We were just there to watch the event, had supper and only chillin around the beach.

Recaps of The Last Oktoberfest Prior To The Pandemic

Named the Best Tourism Event in the Philippines for Sports, Adventure and Wellness, Elyu's Oktoberfest- Surfing Break, which occurred between October 25 and 27, highlighted live art and some live music in key La Union areas which of course includes San Juan (my town). The event which was presented by Globe Telecom (telecom/internet provider in the Philippines) featured a setup of sports and health events like beachside yoga, volleyball and surf meetings occurring consistently. The Globe Eco Patrol section, incorporated a beach wide clean-up, mangrove planting and coral planting which was organized by Curma (Coastal Underwater Resource Management Actions - NGO) To finish the three-day celebration, Globe Telecom banded together up with La Union Surf Club for a gigantic surfing show, covering off the end of the week by giving rash guards to individuals from the NGOs.

The past 2 years, Oktoberfest was on hold and this year, it resumes and it's gonna be fun! Have you attended an Oktoberfest before? If yes, did you like it? Cheers!
